About the Department

The Institute for Biomedical Sciences is a multidisciplinary research and education institute focused on advancing human health through cutting‑edge research and education programs. It provides interdisciplinary training for the next generation of biomedical scientists and professionals and is ranked among the very best in the nation for scholarly research activities.

Position Description

The Institute for Biomedical Sciences invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position at the Professor level to begin in August 2025. The position is open to candidates with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science or a related discipline who have an exceptional record of achievement in biomedical research, a commitment to biomedical science education, and a strong record of scholarly activity including outstanding external federal funding. Candidates must provide evidence of a successful, internationally recognized research program and of excellence in innovative scholarly research, including student success activities. The role will be supported by competitive start‑up packages and excellent laboratory space. Outstanding candidates may be nominated as Georgia Research Alliance Distinguished Investigators, who are expected to engage in translational and/or economic development efforts in their field.

Responsibilities
  • Lead an internationally recognized program in innovative biomedical research.
  • Teach a variety of biomedical science courses offered by the institute.
  • Secure and manage external federal funding.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve department and college goals.
  • Mentor students and contribute to interdisciplinary training.
Qualifications
  • Required Experience: Academic tenure‑track experience involving research, teaching, and service at a higher education institution, a minimum of eight years for the rank of Professor.
  • Required Education: Ph.D. in Biomedical Science or a related discipline at the time of appointment.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Exceptional record of achievement in biomedical research with outstanding external federal funding; evidence of establishing an internationally recognized research program; expertise in inflammatory and infectious diseases, microbial pathogenesis, vaccine and drug development, immunology, or inflammation.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to continue an internationally recognized program in innovative scholarly research; effective teaching skills; strong oral and written communication; collaborative teamwork to achieve departmental or college goals.
  • Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations: None specified.
  • Pre-Employment Requirements: Criminal background check.
