Job description

RN Supervisor (Skilled Nursing) – Weekend/Evening – Queens, NY

Location: Queens, NY
Employment Type: Contract
Pay: $60/hour
Schedule: Every other weekend (evening supervision)

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced RN Supervisor to deliver high-quality skilled nursing care and oversee nursing operations in a skilled nursing facility. In this role, you'll collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure resident well-being, adherence to care plans, and compliance with state and federal healthcare regulations.

Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) degree; active New York State RN license.
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing home experience in an evening supervision capacity.
  • Availability to work every other weekend.
  • Proficiency in patient care documentation and safe medication administration.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
  • Immunity to Hepatitis B (proof required).
  • Thorough knowledge of DOH, CMS, and federal regulations, including survey processes and requirements.
  • Competency in admissions, clinical assessment and documentation, care planning, MDS (including Section GG) assessments, and DOH reporting.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to manage staff confidently and professionally.
  • Knowledge of regulations related to restraints, seclusion, intensive supervision, abuse prevention, and incident reporting, with the ability to develop and monitor corrective action plans.

Key Responsibilities:
General Supervision:
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of assigned nursing and direct care staff.
  • Direct and review nursing staff work; complete performance evaluations and initiate counseling or disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Develop assignments and daily staffing plans; prepare and monitor schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Identify staff development needs; develop, present, or arrange clinical training and evaluate its effectiveness.
  • Ensure staff meet first aid, CPR, and other required training.
  • Participate in recruitment, including interviewing candidates and orienting new staff.
Clinical & Operational Oversight:
  • Supervise admission and discharge planning; serve as liaison to community providers, families, hospitals, and other facilities.
  • Maintain established nursing care standards per state, federal, and accreditation requirements.
  • Make rounds to ensure a safe, sanitary, therapeutic environment and that residents' safety and care needs are met.
  • Communicate and enforce policies, procedures, and current nursing practice trends.
  • Monitor and review nursing documentation for accuracy and quality; follow up to resolve discrepancies.
  • Assess quality of nursing care and assist with quality control programs.
  • Oversee narcotics tracking and management; ensure medical inventories are properly maintained and stored.

Administrative Participation:
  • Participate in the management and administration of nursing services, including planning and program development.
  • Meet with managers to review and update nursing policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assist with department oversight, including budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, and committee participation.
  • Perform RN duties and cover staff assignments when necessary.
