About the Role

We are seeking a Quality & Operating System Lead Engineer to provide leadership and hands-on support for a manufacturing facility specializing in high-force magnets, complex mechanical assemblies, and linear motor production. The site supports both standard and engineered-to-order (ETO) products.

This position balances 70% hands-on quality engineering with 30% strategic leadership. You will manage the local Quality function, ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards, and drive operational excellence through the facility’s Operating System initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Leadership & Ownership

  • Manage the facility’s Quality department, including in-process manufacturing, purchased materials, and customer quality documentation.
  • Oversee implementation and compliance with ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Drive Operating System programs and site-wide improvement initiatives.

Hands-On Quality Engineering

  • Conduct inspections, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Partner with production associates to maintain quality standards in machining, potting, and electrical assemblies.
  • Support customer quality requirements such as First Article Inspections (FAI), waivers, and post-shipment issue resolution.
  • Capture and act on Voice of Customer (VOC) feedback to drive improvements.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Coordinate with Supplier Quality Engineers (SQEs) to manage supplier corrective actions.
  • Partner with headquarters teams and operations leadership to align quality strategies.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen).
  • Provide coaching, training, and support to reinforce a culture of ownership and accountability.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong knowledge of machined parts, mechatronics, and/or electrical assemblies.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 9001 QMS.
  • Ability to balance hands-on quality activities with leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing quality.
  • Certifications: Lean, Six Sigma Black Belt, CQE, or ASQ.
  • Experience in ETO (Engineered-to-Order) manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with complex electrical/mechanical assemblies in high-reliability industries.
