The Senior Director, Revenue Cycle provides strategic and operational leadership for revenue cycle functions across Scripps Health, driving enterprise-wide initiatives that enhance financial performance, improve the patient financial experience, and support organizational growth. This executive leader is responsible for developing and implementing system-wide policies, procedures, and best practices that promote standardization, reduce variation, improve operational efficiency, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Serving as a key partner to hospital, physician, finance, operations, clinical, and information services leaders, the Senior Director collaborates across the health system to align revenue cycle strategies with organizational priorities. The role oversees revenue cycle operations, billing, and reimbursement activities for all five acute care hospitals and Scripps Physician Services, ensuring effective management of the revenue continuum from patient access through final payment resolution.

This leader champions the adoption of point-of-service (POS) technologies, analytics, and performance measurement tools that improve upfront financial clearance, patient engagement, and revenue capture. They will lead efforts to optimize centralized business office operations, streamline workflows, reduce denials, minimize billing errors, improve collections, and lower administrative costs while maintaining a high level of service for patients and providers.

As a key stakeholder in enterprise technology initiatives, the Senior Director partners closely with Information Services and operational leaders in the design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of core revenue cycle systems. This includes leveraging automation, analytics, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies to improve operational performance, strengthen reporting capabilities, and enhance decision-making across the organization.

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • Bachelors of Science or Arts.
  • 5 years of healthcare admitting registration/finance/patient accounting plus 5 years of progressive level of multi-hospital system management responsibility including operations redesign and project management.
  • Knowledge of Federal/State/County/Commercial Insurance Payers requirements.
 
Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:
  • Masters in Business, Healthcare Administration, and Finance preferred. Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Finance, or related field preferred. 
  • HFMA Certified Patient Accounting Manager (CPAM), Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP), HFMA Fellow (FHFMA), or equivalent healthcare revenue cycle certification preferred. 
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale Patient Financial Services operations within a complex, multi-hospital integrated health system.
  • Proven track record driving measurable improvements in key revenue cycle performance including accounts receivable, cash collections, denial rates, underpayments, bad debt, and labor productivity.
  • Experience evaluating, implementing, and optimizing revenue cycle technologies, automation, AI, and Epic revenue cycle applications to drive efficiency and financial performance.
  • Experience managing outsourced and vendor-supported revenue cycle functions, including performance governance, service level management, and operational integration.
  • Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial payer reimbursement methodologies, regulations, and emerging industry trends.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and executive presentation skills with the ability to translate complex operational and financial data into actionable business strategy.
  • Experience leading or partnering with global business services, or hybrid workforce models preferred.
  • Progressive leadership experience including direct oversight of both hospital and professional fee financial services, accounts receivable , billing, collections, denial management, and vendor performance.
