Job description

Who: NYP Victim Intervention Program Advocates are individuals of at least 21 years of age, who all share a commitment to support survivors and advocate on their behalf through the Emergency Department experience.

What: Advocates are specifically trained to be first responders to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and family violence. They provide information and emotional support to survivors as well as to survivors' support systems.

Where: New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, 525 E 68th Street, New York, NY 10065

When: Training will take place across 7 sessions on the below 2026 dates:

Thursday, April 9th, 2026: 6 - 9pm

Saturday, April 11th, 2026: 9am - 6pm

Sunday, April 12th, 2026: 9am - 6pm

Tuesday, April 14th, 2026: 6 - 9pm

Thursday, April 16th, 2026: 6 - 9pm

Saturday, April 18th, 2026: 9am - 6pm

Sunday, April 19th, 2026: 9am - 6pm

Program Requirements: Advocates complete a 40-hour training in order to learn about the dynamics of abuse/violence, how to assist a survivor in safety planning, and how to provide crisis counseling. Advocates sign up for on-call shifts to respond immediately to the Emergency Department/other areas of the hospital and meet survivors in a timely manner. Advocates must be able to respond to the hospital within 30 minutes. Transportation reimbursement is provided.

Interested candidates will have to complete a brief online application and attend a group interview with program staff to be considered.
