Job description

The Premier Veterinary Group in Chicago, IL is hiring a full- time Specialty Veterinary Assistant to support our outstanding Surgery and Neurology teams!
Schedule and Compensation:
  • Four 9 hour weekday shifts
  • No weekends!
  • $19-21/hr, dependent on experience

Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities:
  • Perform basic animal restraint and provide basic animal husbandry
  • Possess a working knowledge of hygiene between patients
  • Knowledge of basic record keeping procedures
  • Trim nails and remove sutures and staples
  • Recognize the need for help and contact the appropriate staff member
  • Properly use the 24-hour treatment sheet and treatment board by observing, monitoring and documenting patients for safety, health and behavioral problems
  • Ensure proper stocking of medical supplies and janitorial needs
  • Demonstrates an ability and awareness to keep hospital areas clean and neat, maintain a safe and clean work environment including but not limited to the cleanliness of laundry, floors and cages
  • Assisting doctors during patient appointments, providing outstanding client communication and education.
  • Performing sterile scrub and assist doctors throughout surgical procedures. - understanding sterile technique and prep, maintaining sterile techniques, pack and prep
  • Required to maintain client and patient confidentiality
  • Meet or exceed performance standards for work quality and productivity
  • Meet or exceed expectations for attendance and punctuality

About You:
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written; organizational skills; proactive thinking and a positive attitude are also a must.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience with anesthetic monitoring is required.
  • The ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and a commitment to developing long-term relationships with colleagues, clients, and the community is required.
  • Maintain a positive outlook and ability to work well in stressful situations.
  • Veterinary experience is a plus but we will train the right person!
