The Coastal Construction Equipment Machine Yard Attendant is responsible for safely loading and unloading new, used, and rental fleet equipment, maintaining yard organization, and supporting internal teams. This role ensures accurate inventory control, proper documentation, and adherence to safety standards while working with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, telehandlers, wheel loaders, aerial lifts, and excavators.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic computer skills for scanning, inventory updates, and logging equipment data.
  • Common-sense problem-solving skills for routine tasks and emergency situations.

Preferred Qualification(s)

  • Experience in equipment handling, yard operations, or related field.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment and attachments.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for hazardous materials and yard maintenance.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Essential Job Functions

  • Load and unload machines; assist customers, company drivers, outside haulers, and over-the-road drivers.
  • Support Sales and Service department as needed.
  • Safely operate equipment for loading/unloading tasks.
  • Fuel machines, record hour meter readings, and capture before/after photos.
  • Scan and reconcile barcode inventory weekly; maintain accurate shipping/receiving records.
  • Keep yard inventory updated and organized; maintain gravel areas and hazardous material storage.
  • Perform weekly start-up and battery checks; jump-start machines if necessary.
  • Report machine damage or missing parts immediately; tag out unsafe machines.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs and work Saturdays/overtime as required.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • None; this is an individual contributor role.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Previous experience in equipment yard operations or heavy equipment handling.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks within acceptable timeframes.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining yard layout and inventory accuracy.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and operating heavy equipment.
  • Mental focus for safety compliance, inventory accuracy, and equipment checks.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor yard environment with exposure to weather conditions.
  • Interaction with customers, drivers, and internal teams.
  • Requires use of PPE and adherence to company safety guidelines.
