Nestled next to the Uinta National Forest in the southern Wasatch Range, Discovery Ranch for Boys is a residential treatment center. We are relationship-based and use experiential therapy.

Discovery Ranch is looking to hire a hard-working and self-motivated Equine Coordinator. While our students participate in various experiential activities, none is more central to our mission than equine and animal therapy. Your work is not only essential to the well-being of our animals, but the success of our students as well. An excellent equine assistant will have extensive riding experience (5+ years) and be skilled at working with challenging animals. The most competitive candidates will be experienced ranch hands and equine instructors who are detail oriented, energetic, and compassionate.

Essential duties include:

  • Teach students specialized riding skills with an emphasis on proper technique and form.
  • Enrich students' understanding of the relationship between horse and rider.
  • Ensure health and welfare of 15+ horses
  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of stalls, individual calf hutches, hay barn, horse barn, horse turnouts, calf corrals, and arenas
  • Administer medications and manage animal medical records
  • Treat injuries and illnesses (horses, calves, goats, and chickens) in accordance with equine director or veterinary advice
  • Schedule and assist with routine and emergency care including veterinarian and farrier appointments
  • Maintain inventory and feed supplies
  • Attend weekly meetings with coordinators to discuss areas of improvement

  • 5+ years working, riding, and training horses
  • Able to pass criminal investigation background checks
  • Able to pass motor vehicle record check
  • Eligible to work in the USA
  • Current Utah driver's license (within 30 days of employment)
  • 1st Aid & CPR certified (we may provide)
  • ICC certified (we may provide)
