Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is seeking qualified applicants for a 12-month, full-time, renewable clinical term-track position for Equine Emergency Surgery and Critical Care. The objective of this position is to provide clinical services in Equine Emergency Surgery and Critical Care by implementing new and current diagnostics, performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and providing medical care and patient management to equine cases presented to the hospital. In this role, the faculty member will supervise and instruct students, interns, and residents assigned to the equine emergency service and provide didactic lectures and labs in your area of expertise to students within the DVM curriculum. The faculty member will also collaborate with the equine surgery, internal medicine, theriogenology, and ambulatory services to facilitate equine emergencies. The faculty member will have some capacity to pursue other areas of academic interests such as clinical duty (daytime), collaborative research and scholarly activity, and/or teaching, based on the candidates interest and needs of the department. We value a collaborative, team-oriented, and collegial individual with excellent communication skills to fill this role and to participate in departmental, college, or university committees.

Completion of an approved American College of Veterinary Surgeons - Large Animal (ACVS-LA), or American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care – Large Animal (ACVECC-LA) residency program.

Department/Program & College Description:
Iowa State University’s (ISU’s) Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center’s Equine Hospital is one of the state’s premier facilities which includes: an intensive care unit (ICU), isolation facility, general hospitalization wards, multiple examination rooms, and a climate controlled performance arena. We routinely work collaboratively with other large and small animal services including: equine surgery, equine theriogenology, farrier, equine ambulatory, equine internal medicine, small animal emergency & critical care, cardiology, dermatology and ophthalmology. Currently, the ISU LVMC is the process of expanding with a new addition for equine ICU, theriogenology, and equine rehabilitation. Current equipment includes, ultrasound machines, digital radiography, MRI, CT, endoscopy, and additional equipment for equine emergency and critical care.
The ISU LVMC serves the state of Iowa and adjacent states with boarded certified specialists in equine internal medicine (4), equine surgery (3), equine theriogenology (2), equine field services (3), and farriery (2). Faculty collaborate together to provide the best veterinary care possible to the patients and are actively involved in developing new methods for equine treatment and management.
