Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position at a Level I Trauma Center requiring an active IL RN license and 2-3 years of acute care experience.

  • Handles approximately 60-75 cases per day
  • Patient population includes outpatient, inpatient, and trauma cases such as GSW, stabbings, transplants (kidney, heart), general, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, and open heart/CABG procedures
  • Hybrid room manages 5-10 adult cases per day including TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, and fistula revisions
  • Approximately 20% of caseload is pediatric, including open hearts, appendectomy, and cholecystectomy cases
  • No liver or lung transplant cases performed
  • Participates in Gifts of Hope organ donation cases
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • Shift is 8-hour night shift, 10:45pm-7:15am, 40 hours per week
  • Various shift patterns available including 8, 10, and 12-hour options depending on role
  • Weekend rotation required every 4th weekend (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday)
  • OR operates 24/7, 365 days a year with skeleton crew coverage for trauma and urgent cases outside standard hours
  • On-call required, dependent on shift and service line, with a 30-minute response time and on-call sleeping room available
  • No floating required
  • No self-scheduling; staff are scheduled based on unit rotation needs
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2-3 years of acute care experience required (3 years of hybrid experience required for IR Hybrid Tech roles)
  • Level 1-2 trauma experience required
  • Critical care experience preferred
  • Ability to scrub and circulate required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Siemens equipment experience required for Hybrid IR Tech role
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Candidate's middle name/initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide scrub and circulating RN support for a high-acuity, high-volume surgical unit performing a wide range of specialty procedures
  • Facility is a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, and a Comprehensive Stroke Center with 794 beds
  • Located in Oak Lawn, IL, approximately 45 minutes from Chicago
  • Support team includes charge nurse, resource nurse, anesthesiologist, ANM, educators, service line reps, and EPIC super-users
  • Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment Monday-Friday but assists on weekends and evenings
  • Orientation includes meeting educators and ANM, gaining system login access, completing online modules, and EPIC training on day one, followed by unit orientation on days two and three
  • Holiday coverage required, including one winter holiday and one summer holiday
  • All requested time off must be submitted via email to the manager
  • Scrubs provided by the facility
