Job Description
The Senior Epic Cogito Analyst/Builder provides strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for implementing and proactively supporting clinical and operational self-service analytics tools at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, with a special focus on tools within the electronic health record (Epic Systems). Works closely with business users and stakeholders to determine and manage data requirements for a project, program, or initiative. Has expertise in self-service analytics with a strong understanding of the data ecosystem and able to guide end users to the best tools to fulfill data requests. Advocates for user needs and is a technical subject matter expert for configuring new reports and visualizations. They will also have strong relationships with Business Intelligence developers who can augment what is available through custom reporting as well as Epic Analysts who can configure groupers, registries, and other tools in Epic to facilitate reporting.
Experience
  • 3+ years of experience as an Epic Cogito Analyst with significant involvement in data-driven projects for quality improvement, research, or operations, or other organizational needs

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of experience in the role of Epic Cogito Analyst at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Epic is required

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, related field, or equivalent technical training and experience or front-line clinical experience (e.g., nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, etc.) with experience participating in data-driven projects.

Performs advanced business analysis
• Acts as primary liaison between functional areas, leadership, and project teams to align analytics work with organizational priorities.
• Leads requirements discovery with end users and stakeholders, including clinical and operational leaders.
• Selects and applies appropriate elicitation methods and coaches junior staff on their use.
• Advises on complex data needs and recommends the most effective tools and assets in the data ecosystem.
Requirements documentation
• Produces clear, comprehensive requirements for complex and cross-functional initiatives.
• Designs and reviews models of business workflows and supporting data/technology (e.g., use cases, flow charts, swim lanes).
• Documents functional, interface, performance, and security requirements, including key constraints.
• Ensures documentation follows organizational standards and mentors others on best practices.
• Oversees use of tools (e.g., Epic Analytics Catalog) to maintain accurate definitions, ownership, and governance.
Implementation leadership and validation
• Leads requirements prioritization and scope management across multiple stakeholders.
• Manages requirements change control and traceability through design and build.
• Partners with BI and Epic Analysts to design and implement scalable system builds for self-service reporting and analytics.
• Independently configures self-service tools and complex reports/dashboards; coordinates with technical experts as needed.
• Defines validation strategy, develops test plans/scripts, and leads testing activities.
• Confirms solutions meet requirements and are ready for production deployment.
System administration and governance
• Proactively maintains a stable, secure, and performant analytics environment.
• Ensures adherence to environment and change-management standards; recommends improvements.
• Promotes consistent, user-centered build practices and long-term maintainability.
• Participates in or leads governance activities related to Cogito and analytics tools.
Data literacy leadership and education
• Serves as subject matter expert and escalation point for complex end-user needs.
• Designs and leads training to build understanding of the data ecosystem and effective data request practices.
• Coaches users and junior analysts to effectively use and build self-service tools and reports.
• Promotes a culture of data literacy and data-driven decision-making across the organization.
