Job description

The Manager - Epic Technical is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the technical aspects of Epic implementation, upgrades, or major Epic initiatives. This role provides end to end technical leadership across infrastructure, environments, integrations, and technical dependencies, ensuring the Epic program is delivered on time, maintained securely, and in alignment with organizational standards. The Manager participates in project scope discussions and serves as the central point of accountability for technical planning, decision making, and execution. This role is ideally suited for an organized, detail-oriented leader with strong project management skills and a solid technical background, including a broad understanding of enterprise infrastructure and support teams such as servers, storage, network, and desktop services.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years' experience in information technology project management or information technology infrastructure oversight
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience coordinating large scale healthcare IT or enterprise system projects
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience Epic or enterprise EHR implementation or upgrade experience in a healthcare environment
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role supporting EHR platforms
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with vendors and/or managed service providers
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Epic certification(s) in requested modules required or ability to obtain within defined timeframe

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, preferred 
  • Familiarity with Epic environments, hosting models, and technical architecture

Technical Leadership & Program Coordination

  • Coordinate all technical aspects of the Epic program, including hardware, technical processes, integrations, architecture decisions, and dependencies
  • Serve as the primary technical advisor to the Executive Director - Epic Program and executive leadership
  • Participate in project scope discussions to proactively identify technical impacts, constraints, risks, and opportunities
  • Ensure technical workstreams are fully integrated into the overall project plan and timeline

Environment & Infrastructure Management

  • Serve as the organizational point of accountability for Epic environment usage, including development, testing, training, production and ongoing Epic environment maintenance
  • Oversee environment provisioning, scheduling, and utilization across all phases of the program
  • Lead technical readiness activities related to servers, storage, network, workstation, and peripheral infrastructure
  • Coordinate closely with infrastructure, desktop, and network teams to ensure Epic readiness and ongoing system performance

Implementation, Migration & Testing Support

  • Lead technical planning for Epic implementations, upgrades, and migrations
  • Own migration planning and execution for environments, data, and integrations as required
  • Coordinate testing cycles, including technical validation, performance testing, and integration testing
  • Ensure technical dependencies are identified, tracked, and resolved ahead of key milestones

Change Management, Upgrades & Patching

  • Lead technical change management governance for Epic environments
  • Coordinate Epic upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities in collaboration with Epic, hosting vendors, and internal teams
  • Ensure changes are properly evaluated for risk, tested, approved, and scheduled
  • Maintain documentation and processes to support repeatable and controlled change execution

Stability, Performance & Scalability

  • Support system stability, performance optimization, and longterm scalability of the Epic platform
  • Monitor technical risks and proactively address capacity, performance, and resilience concerns
  • Partner with technical and application teams to resolve highimpact issues during testing, golive, and postgolive stabilization
  • Support downtime planning, disaster recovery testing, and business continuity readiness

CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Epic application teams to align technical and functional plans
  • Partner with infrastructure, security, integration, and desktop support teams
  • Coordinate with hosting vendors and thirdparty partners to ensure contractual and technical requirements are met
  • Facilitate communication between technical stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency

Working Environment

  • Onsite
  • Extended hours may be required during testing cycles, upgrades, and golive events
  • Travel required for attendance at vendor training, addressing offsite technical infrastructure solutions, and other enterprise-wide Epic program or IT related education activities
