Job description


The Epic Application Analyst is responsible for the design, configuration, implementation, support, maintenance,
and optimization of Epic technical infrastructure and integrated technologies that support the organization's
electronic health record (EHR) ecosystem.
This role serves as the primary technical resource for assigned Epic
technical applications and environments, ensuring the stability, security, performance, and interoperability of
Epic systems across clinical, financial, and operational domains.
The Epic Application Analyst partners closely with Epic application teams, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity, database administrators, integration engineers,
vendor partners, and operational stakeholders to support Epic implementation, upgrades, optimizations, and
ongoing system operations.
This role plays a critical part in maintaining system availability, supporting
integrations, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and ensuring the successful deployment of Epic
technologies throughout the organization.
Responsibilities
  • Configures, maintains, monitors, and supports Epic technical applications, environments, and infrastructure components. Manages assigned Epic technical modules such as Hyperspace, Hyperdrive, Interconnect, Web BLOB, Print Services, System Pulse, Identity, Security, MyChart infrastructure, and other Epic technical platforms as assigned. Supports Epic environment management activities, including promotions, refreshes, upgrades, patches, and system maintenance. Monitors system performance, availability, and reliability and proactively identify opportunities for improvement. Ensures Epic technical environments adhere to organizational standards and Epic best practices.
  • Supports and maintains Epic interfaces, integrations, and interoperability solutions with internal and external systems. Collaborates with interface engineers and application teams to troubleshoot connectivity, data exchange, and integration issues. Assists in implementing and supporting HL7, FHIR, APIs, and other interoperability technologies. Monitors integration performance and resolve data transmission issues in a timely manner. Participates in integration testing and validation activities during implementations and upgrades.
  • Investigates, diagnoses, and resolves complex Epic technical issues affecting system performance,
    availability, or functionality. Performs root-cause analysis for system incidents and recommend corrective actions. Supports incident, problem, and change management processes. Escalates issues appropriately and collaborate with Epic Technical Services when necessary. Maintains detailed documentation of technical issues, resolutions, and support procedures.
  • Supports Epic security administration, user access management, authentication, and system security controls as assigned. Ensures compliance with organizational cybersecurity policies, HIPAA requirements, and regulatory standards. Assists with security reviews, vulnerability remediation, audit requests, and risk mitigation activities. Collaborates with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams to maintain secure Epic environments. Supports disaster recovery planning, business continuity processes, and system recovery testing activities.
  • Participates in Epic implementations, upgrades, optimizations, and new module deployments. Supports technical planning, build validation, testing, cutover activities, and go-live readiness efforts. Coordinates technical tasks across Epic teams, infrastructure teams, and third-party vendors. Assists with environment preparation, release management, and deployment planning. Provides go-live and stabilization support for new implementations and enhancements.
  • Monitors server performance, application performance, network connectivity, and overall Epic system health. Supports capacity planning and performance optimization initiatives. Collaborates with infrastructure teams to ensure proper system architecture and resource allocation. Analyzes system logs, monitoring tools, and performance metrics to identify potential issues. Recommends infrastructure improvements that enhance performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation, configuration standards, support procedures, and system diagrams. Documents technical designs, workflows, operational processes, and maintenance activities. Maintains accurate records of system configurations and technical dependencies. Supports knowledge transfer initiatives and cross-training efforts within the IT organization.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve system performance, automation, efficiency, and reliability. Evaluates new Epic technologies, tools, and technical capabilities. Stays current on Epic technical enhancements, healthcare technology trends, and industry best practices. Recommends and implements process improvements that support operational excellence and service quality. Contributes to long-term technical strategy and Epic roadmap planning initiatives.
  • Assists in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.

Qualifications
  • 3 years of experience in healthcare information technology, systems administration, application
    support, infrastructure support, technical engineering, or related experience, required.
  • 1 year of experience supporting enterprise applications, technical environments, or healthcare
    technology systems, required.
  • 1 year of experience working with system integrations, interfaces, or technical support
    processes, required.
  • 1 year of experience supporting Epic implementations, upgrades, or optimization initiatives, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience with Windows Server administration, virtualization, networking, cloud
    technologies, databases, or enterprise infrastructure platforms, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience with system monitoring, logging, automation, and performance
    management tools, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, health informatics, information systems, information technology or other related field, required, OR four years of related experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
  • Epic certification in one or more technical applications and/or ability to attain Epic certification(s) in assigned module(s) within a defined timeframe determined at time of hire.

As part of our selection process, candidates being considered for this position will be required to complete a Sphinx Assessment, which is used to evaluate job-related competencies and determine overall suitability for the role. Successful completion of the assessment is a required component of the hiring process.
This position also requires active participation in various phases of the Epic application lifecycle, including but not limited to implementation, go-live support, stabilization, optimization, and system upgrades. Candidates must be willing and able to accommodate the demands associated with these activities, which may include:
  • This position operates in a hybrid work environment and may require a minimum of 25% onsite presence to support operational and business needs.
  • Working additional hours outside of regularly scheduled business hours, including evenings and weekends, as project needs dictate.
  • Participating in on-site go-live and support activities across multiple organizational locations.
  • Traveling occasionally for Epic training, certification, project meetings, or other work-related purposes, including travel outside of the state.
  • Traveling between organizational facilities to provide operational, project, and end-user support.
