Job description

Are you an experienced HVAC technician who takes pride in solving problems, working independently, and delivering high-quality service to customers? Kauai Air Conditioning & Plumbing is looking for skilled HVAC Service Technicians who are ready to grow their careers with a company that values craftsmanship, professionalism, and technical excellence.

Our technicians are the face of the company, building strong customer relationships while handling diagnostics, repairs, refrigerant work, and light installations across residential systems and light commercial. If you’re motivated, dependable, and want to work for a company that respects your knowledge and supports your growth, we’d love to hear from you.

The HVAC Service Technician independently handles residential service and light commercials calls such as diagnostics, refrigerant work, component replacement, and minor installs. Service Technicians work independently in the field, mentor maintenance staff, and act as the primary technical face of the company to customers.

Job Functions:

  • Independently diagnose and repair common AC system issues — boards, fan motors, capacitors, contactors, relays, sensors, and thermostats.
  • Assist senior technicians on more complex service calls to develop advanced diagnostic skills.
  • Perform complete preventive maintenance and service work — clean filters, coils, and drain pans; clear clogged drain lines; inspect electrical components, refrigerant pressures, airflow, belts, and motors.
  • Take accurate temperature and pressure readings; interpret findings and communicate them clearly to customers and the office.
  • Perform leak detection using UV dye, electronic detectors, soap bubble, and nitrogen pressure testing; locate and repair minor refrigerant leaks at fittings, Schrader valves, and accessible joints.
  • Recover and recharge refrigerant per EPA 608 standards; track quantities accurately in Service Titan.
  • Braze refrigerant lines safely and cleanly.
  • Read and interpret electrical diagrams to support diagnostics and repairs.
  • Handle minimal install tasks — failed condenser, AHU, indoor or outdoor coil replacement — when service resolution requires it.
  • Build complete service-call documentation in Service Titan — diagnostic findings, parts used, refrigerant tracking, before/after photos, customer recommendations, and follow-up notes.
  • Generate accurate field estimates and present repair options confidently to customers; close recommended work.
  • Run a full service-call route independently; pick up additional or after-hours calls when needed.
  • Use manifold gauges, multimeters, leak detectors, and hand tools safely under EPA 608 guidelines.
  • Mentor Maintenance Laborers and Maintenance Technicians on the jobsite.
  • Follow the professional Check-In / Check-Out process with every customer.
  • Maintain a clean, organized jobsite and work vehicle.
  • Any additional duties or responsibilities deemed necessary.

Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate with a variety of personality types.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to complete work to a deadline.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all HVAC Maintenance Technician functions.
  • EPA 608 Certification (current and in good standing).
  • Solid understanding of residential split-system units, the refrigeration cycle, and gauge/meter readings.
  • Working knowledge of refrigerant leak detection, brazing, and electrical diagram reading.
  • Ability to independently diagnose and repair common AC system issues.
  • Strong customer-facing skills — present diagnoses, options, and pricing clearly; close recommended repairs.
  • Field-estimating proficiency in Service Titan.
  • Ability to work independently and run a full route without supervision.
  • 1+ year of HVAC service experience preferred.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors, on roofs, and in attics or crawlspaces.

Pay: $27-45 based on experience
