About the Role:

Role: MMIS Process & Documentation Intern  

The EHS-IT team supporting the MassHealth (MH) within the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EHS) is seeking an Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) Process & Documentation Intern. The primary purpose of this internship is to assist the MMIS Team to enhance operational efficiency by documenting MMIS production processes and identifying opportunities for standardization and automation.   The intern will work with the Medicaid Management Information Systems - Maintenance and Operations team.  

The primary work location for this role will be at 100 Hancock St, Quincy, Massachusetts 02171. The work schedule for this position is Monday thru Friday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM EST.  This position is expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Document current-state processes  

  • Update to Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) 

  • Gap analysis report  

  • Recommend process improvements and automation opportunities  

  • Standardize documentation  

  • Final presentation of findings and recommendations 

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail for reviewing documentation, validating data, and confirming system outputs. 

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for notes, summaries, and cross-team coordination. 

  • Ability to follow structured processes and work within established MMIS workflows. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/365 tools, especially Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint. 

  • Basic understanding of information systems, business processes, or public administration from coursework. 

  • Analytical thinking to identify discrepancies, interpret requirements, and support operational reviews. 

  • Willingness to learn MMIS operations, Medicaid workflows

Special Requirements:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student.

  • Education status will be verified in accordance with the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines.

  • Proof of Education provided by the selected candidate(s) is subject to the Massachusetts Public Record Law and may be published on the Commonwealth's website.

Additional Information:

  • Internship Timeframe: June - August 2026

  • Benefits are unavailable with the exception of sick leave accruals.
  • All interns will be paid on a biweekly basis and must have direct deposit.
  • The salary for this position is $19 an hour.
