The Wooten Company's Raleigh, NC Headquarters is seeking a team-focused, innovative Engineering Project Manager with strong technical experience to join our expanding Environmental Team.


Who are you? The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated water / wastewater engineer with a strong background in completing and managing successful water and wastewater treatment plant projects for local municipalities and private clients. You have been a licensed Professional Engineer for at least 7 years. You are responsible, work well with a team and communicate well with people of varying backgrounds and experiences.  You are hungry to learn and grow professionally in your field.  


What will you be doing? Candidates can expect to work with utility owners, such as local municipalities and utility authorities, in the operating and maintenance of purified water systems, along with other community facilities. The person in this role can make a significant community impact by supporting our clients as they carry out their mission to efficiently own, operate, and maintain public utilities on behalf of their customers / residents. Candidates can expect to be continually challenged to independently design projects and lead a team of colleagues to develop solutions that meet our client's needs, using the right mix of advanced technology and historically successful measures, while working within the financial boundaries of the project stakeholders.   


Who will you be working with? The Engineering Project Manager can expect cross functional collaboration across all teams and specialties, providing an opportunity to interact with The Wooten Company colleagues in both North and South Carolina, and Virginia. Additionally, this person will regularly work with municipal and private clients, as well as state and federal regulatory agencies. For the right person with a desire to grow professionally, this role is a good opportunity to obtain a depth and breadth of civil engineering ability and to contribute to the growing presence of Wooten in the North Carolina region.   


Where will you be working? Our HQ is in downtown Raleigh and where this position will be located. Conveniently nestled in the Glenwood South District, the local area is filled with restaurants and nightlife, unique shops, art galleries and studios, and convenient apartment and condominium living, many within walking distance to the office. The Wooten Company also has 5 other offices located in Wilmington, Winston-Salem, Greenville, and Hickory, NC as well as Columbia, SC.   


Requirements

  Essential Functions

  • Maintain effective liaison and relationships with clients on a variety of water and wastewater treatment plant projects.
  • Proactively engage in the development of new business, with a focus on existing clients.
  • Develop project scope, budgets, and work plans and manage project adhering to these items.
  • Consult with project team to provide technical guidance; outline work plan; assign duties and responsibilities; and resolve problems.
  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise activities of project personnel and team members to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
  • Provide leadership and direction by mentoring and motivating staff for team work and their career growth.
  • Preparation of necessary calculations, reports, specifications and other project materials.
  • Motivate team personnel toward performance excellence in all assigned tasks.
  • Assist Practice with achievement of Financial Goals.
  • Perform QA/QC functions to help ensure projects meet client expectations and engineering excellence.
  • Take an active role in the preparation of proposals including development of work, schedules, fees, and overall content.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program.
  • 7 years of experienced as a Professional Engineer (PE) with water/wastewater engineering experience in a consulting engineering environment, 2 years of which have been in a project management capacity.
  • NC licensed Professional Registration (PE) in NC is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A foundational knowledge of Project Management techniques, and a desire to expand these skills.
  • Strong experience with engineering design and construction administration for municipal utility projects. 
  • Familiarity with federal, state and local agency regulations, primarily concerning municipal water and wastewater treatment plant projects.
  • Experience with public infrastructure project financing and NCDOT is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (O365) applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling and with AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of engineering project process from inception to completion through construction.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present to clients and plan/conduct meetings.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
