Ohio EPA seeks an adept and mission-driven individual to help manage our water quality protection programs across the state.

Looking for a place to help protect Ohio’s wetlands and waterways? You’ve found it.

In this role y ou’ll oversee reviews of 401 Water Quality Certifications, Isolated wetland and stream permits, exemptions, and nationwide permits. You’ll guide wetland mitigation projects from start to finish, including tracking progress, conducting site visits and inspections , handling legal and compliance correspondence, and coordinating enforcement activities.

To achieve program and division success, you’ll direct and support a team of environmental specialists and ensure they have the proper training, skills, and resources. You’ll also coordinate compliance and permitting activities with federal and state agencies and commissions to accomplish agency goals.

You’ll analyze water quality rules and changes and collaborate with the U.S Army Corps of Engineers and other partners to develop effective nationwide and regional water quality permits, policies, and regulations. As a subject expert, you’ll provide technical assistance and outreach on water quality topics to the public, governments, and the regulated community.

  • Manage review of water quality certifications and wetland permits.
  • Coordinate compliance and permitting activities with federal and state agencies, industry, and stakeholder groups.
  • Oversee and track wetland mitigation projects.
  • Collaborate with federal and state partners on policy development and regulatory changes.
  • Direct and support program staff development, effectiveness and training.

Qualifications
  • 6 yrs. trg. or 6 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology &/or comparable science field &/or mathematics &/or history &/or archaeology which included responsibility for developing, coordinating & implementing programs for specific environmental area (e.g., air pollution; water pollution; solid/hazardous waste planning; ecological impact assessment; water quality monitoring & assessment; ground water or laboratory services); AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. as lead worker or supervisor or in administrative capacity.
  • Note: Training &/or experience must correspond to environmental area to be assigned. Positions in Environmental Protection Agency's solid waste program, excluding positions in solid waste planning unit, also require valid Ohio certificate of registration as sanitarian or valid Ohio certificate as sanitarian-in-training.
  • OR 12 mos. as Environmental Supervisor, 85865.
  • OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
