Job description

Aircraft Layout Design Engineer I in  GAC Appleton


Unique Skills:

This is a Design Engineer position in Aircraft Layout and Design Engineering for Completions. Design responsibilities primarily involve engineering standard and complex floorplans creating 2D design packages utilizing AutoCAD and Catia.  In addition to design packages this also includes but not limited to, carpet layout drawings, exterior marking drawings, emergency equipment layouts, and material call-out drawings.  At times this position will be required to assist in the 3D design of new and derivative versions of interior furnishings and amenities as part of outfitting new aircraft utilizing Catia. Examples include custom cabinetry such as galleys, lavatories, closets, storage compartments, interior peripheries, water/waste systems, entertainment equipment installations, and seating installations. AL&D Design engineer will employ design standards consistent with company standards and accepted design methods. Design assignments are executed under the direction of the Engineering Manager or Lead Eng to meet the customer upfront schedules.  This position will have high interaction with Customer Completion Executives, and Customer Delivery Managers.

  1. Knowledge of the use of AutoCAD and Catia to create complicated designs requiring 2-D drawings from 3D Models. Currently this will utilize CATIA and Smarteam to extract data for the 2D AutoCAD design packages of aircraft interiors.
     
  2. Knowledge of the use of Catia to assist in the design of 3D models for aircraft interiors.
     
  3. Proficient in managing resources and projects as well as being a high contributor to the overall work effort.
     
  4. Faulty decisions could cause delays in schedules, and inefficient use of resources.


 

Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree Engineering or related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Entry level. 0-18 months experience. Position Purpose:Performs engineering work related to the investigation and solution of basic problems associated with research, design, development, service and manufacture of Gulfstream aircraft.
Job Description
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:Essential Functions:
  1. Provides technical assistance to engineering staff and contributes by completing discrete engineering tasks on schedule .
  2. Using company procedures, applies engineering knowledge to resolve routine issues .
  3. Analyzes and evaluates results of project activities .
  4. Prepares recommendations for changes and compiles necessary reports for various department supervision .
  5. Recognizes discrepancies and/or problems with analysis/test results and works toward corrective action .
Additional Functions:
  1. Actively works to improve daily processes, and ensures all work meets customer requirements .
  2. Continues learning and developing knowledge of application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in assigned field of expertise .
Perform other duties as assigned.Other Requirements:
  1. The level of technical skills and abilities appropriate for this grade level will be established by each discipline.
  2. Work is closely supervised/monitored, follows established procedures and methods.
  3. Failure to achieve results may cause delays in program schedules.
  4. Ability to convey technical concepts in both written and verbal formats.
  5. Contacts are primarily with direct supervisor, mentor, and other exempt professionals in the group or department.
