Job description

The Archdiocese of Chicago, the third largest in the United States, serves more than 2.2 million Catholics in 216 parishes in Cook County and Lake County, a geographic area of 1,411 square miles. Old St. Patrick's Church is a vibrant Catholic community of more than 8500 active members, committed to answering God's call through radical inclusivity, beautiful worship, and transformative kinship. Old St. Pat's is located in Chicago's West Loop, a neighborhood with one of the nation's highest concentrations of adults under 40. The Director of Young Adult Ministry is a creative, committed Catholic who will accompany adults under 40 in deepening lives of faith, engaging these members in building community and assuming co-responsibility for the life, mission, and vision of Old St. Patrick's.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Young Adult Ministry
  • Recruit, form, and lead young adult member-volunteers as the staff leader of Encounter, Old St. Patrick's Young Adult (18-39) Ministry, planning and promoting programs such as faith-sharing groups, social outings, service and justice experiences, and opportunities for young professionals to connect faith, meaning, and career goals
  • Develop and execute effective strategies to build community among broad groups of young adults, including recent college graduates, rising professionals, recently-married couples, and young parents
  • Collaborate with staff colleagues to integrate young adults into all aspects of Old St. Patrick's church life and ministry, building intergenerational community
  • Convene and chair a Neighborhood Engagement committee of staff, members, and community members, collaborating to plan outreach to the West Loop community
  • Build connections with college and university campus ministries and alumni networks

Old St. Patrick's Team Collaboration
  • Actively participate as a member of the Old St. Patrick's Ministry Team by serving on committees, presenting at adult faith formation events, promoting and supporting events planned by colleagues, and communicating with Old St. Patrick's members through bulletin reflections, video messages, and social media
  • Contribute to church-wide planning, programs, and events such as Holy Week, Easter, Christmas, and St. Patrick's Day celebrations
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Special Events to develop young adult leadership in key fundraising events
  • Maintain regular presence at Sunday Masses and support Sunday hospitality ministries
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • A practicing Roman Catholic with knowledge of and appreciation for the Catholic faith and tradition
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Creativity and flexibility in ministry: a readiness to try and evaluate new approaches
  • Mature knowledge of self and others manifested in the ability to develop positive relationships with diverse members while maintaining appropriate interpersonal boundaries; the ability to receive, offer, and learn from positive and critical feedback; and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff colleagues and member-volunteers

Education / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in theology, divinity, pastoral ministry, or related field preferred

This position has an annualized salary of $65,000.00. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on many factors including but not limited to: relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
