Job description

Description
Supports the stability, security, and performance of core on-prem and cloud systems by executing standard operating procedures for monitoring, patching, backups, account administration, and incident response. Resolves common issues independently, documents change and fixes, and escalates complex problems to senior administrators. Partners with the team to keep knowledge articles current and to follow change, security, and documentation standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and maintain routine systems hardware and software following approved procedures and checklists.
  • Monitor system health (alerts, capacity, logs), perform basic troubleshooting, and remediate common issues; escalate per runbooks when needed.
  • Execute patching, updates, and backups on a defined cadence; validate success and remediate failures under guidance.
  • Perform account administration and access management (e.g., Active Directory groups, basic Microsoft 365 tasks) in line with security standards.
  • Provide Tier-1 network support for routine connectivity issues (DNS/DHCP lookups, basic Wi-Fi checks) before escalation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation (KB articles, SOPs, diagrams) and clear ticket notes to ensure traceability and knowledge reuse.
  • Support endpoint and server maintenance activities (antivirus updates, basic peripheral/server tasks) as directed.
  • Assist with virtualization and backup tasks (e.g., VM snapshots, restore tests, backup job status) under senior oversight.
  • Participate in routine changes and deployments (software rollouts, scheduled updates) and in DR/restore tests as assigned.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying documentation gaps, proposing simple scripting/automation for repetitive tasks, and sharing lessons learned.
  • Provide off-hours support on a rotation or as scheduled for maintenance windows and incident
    response.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilties
  • Foundational system administration: Windows Server basics, file/print services, Active Directory concepts, DNS/DHCP, Microsoft 365 fundamentals.
  • Network fundamentals and troubleshooting basics; follows runbooks and standard procedures.
  • Backup/patching concepts and routine execution; strong attention to detail in verification and documentation.
  • Familiarity with virtualization and common admin toolsets (hypervisor consoles, event/log viewers, ticketing systems).
  • Scripting/automation basics and a willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; customer service mindset; collaborates well and knows when to escalate.
  • Documentation discipline: keeps SOPs/KBs current and tickets complete and auditable.
