Job description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintains a high-quality ice surface by operating and maintaining equipment such as the Zamboni machine, preparing the ice for various activities, and conducting routine ice cuts throughout shifts
  • Supervises student ice crew and rink staff during evenings, weekends, and special events
  • Conducts general rink maintenance and upkeep, including maintaining dashers, glass, and team bench areas, as well as repairing and maintaining the Zamboni machine
  • Coordinates and facilitates daily ice rentals for both RIT and non-RIT individuals and groups, ensuring smooth operations and customer satisfaction
  • Supports the skate rental booth operations, including cash handling, end-of-shift cash deposits, supervising student employees, and assisting customers with skate rentals and returns
  • Performs skate sharpening and repairs to ensure customer needs are met and equipment remains in good condition
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of ice resurfacing techniques, ice depth measurement, and equipment operation, including ice resurfaces and edging tools
  • Knowledge of general rink maintenance practices, including maintaining dashers, glass, bench areas, and Zamboni equipment
  • Ability to resolve technical or operational issues related to ice surfaces, equipment, or facility systems
  • Ability to provide excellent service to patrons, including assisting with skate rentals, skate sharpening, and addressing customer concerns professionally

Minimum Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or GED
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

Job Level Overview
Operations, Administrative, Service, or Technical Support Level 2 - An intermediate level role with working foundational knowledge and skills to perform routine and occasionally non-routine tasks. Tasks may require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures. May provide assistance to entry level staff.
This is a Part Time position.
Please note-this position requires ability to work nights/weekends depending on athletics/events scheduled.
This position is responsible for maintaining a quality ice surface and supervising the student ice crew for the Gene Polisseni Center in the evenings or weekends. This person will have direct hands-on responsibility for ice maintenance including: operating equipment (including Zamboni); ice preparation for all activities; maintenance of the Zamboni, dashers, glass, and team bench areas. During the off-season responsibilities will change to building maintenance including painting locker rooms and hallways, buffing and polishing acrylic shielding, as well other repairs to the facility. Off-season will also change to daytime hours.
