Your Impact
We are looking for an Automation Projects Engineer I who will contribute to the success of the FMS Projects Team, applying their knowledge of monitoring and automation systems to support the achievement of team and company goals and deliver innovative, reliable solutions. In this role, the successful candidate will collaborate effectively with colleagues and cross-functional teams, demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, and maintain a commitment to customer satisfaction, quality and regulatory compliance.
The Role
The Automation Projects Engineer I is a dynamic, field-based position designed for a proactive problem-solver who enjoys technical, hands-on work. In this role, you will be the face of our company at customer sites-primarily within the pharmaceutical sector-ensuring the successful physical installation and validation of our automation systems. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for an aspiring engineer or a seasoned technician (HVAC/Electrical) to transition into the high-standard world of pharmaceutical automation. You will gain specialized expertise in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and play a critical role in deploying hardware that supports life-saving industries.
Job Responsibilities
  • Install hardware for automation systems at customer sites, including basic rack mounting of automation components
  • Perform field wiring and infrastructure tasks, such as running Ethernet cables, vacuum tubing, and 24VDC signal wiring
  • Conduct on-site portable particle counter validations at pharmaceutical facilities
  • Adhere to and apply Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) during all validation and installation tasks
  • Travel to customer sites (primarily pharmaceutical companies) up to 75% of the time during peak project periods
  • Continuously evaluate processes for improvements in efficiency, quality, and safety

Required Qualifications
  • Pursuing degree in Automation Engineering or a related technical field
  • 2 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination between education and experience (Candidates with 2 years of technical experience as an Electrician or in HVAC are also encouraged to apply)
  • Strong knowledge of: Basic electrical systems (24VDC), networking infrastructure (Ethernet), and mechanical mounting
  • Willingness to learn regulated industry standards (GMP/GDP)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed Degree in Automation, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with: Pharmaceutical industry environments, cleanroom protocols, or particle counter equipment
  • Prior experience: Practical field work in electrical installations or HVAC systems
  • Contributions to innovative solutions: Experience troubleshooting complex automation hardware setups in the field

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • This role operates primarily in an office environment. Must be able to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods of time
  • Must be available to travel up to 75% during peak times
  • Manual dexterity required for hands-on installation work
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. may be required

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive base salary range: $67,100 - $100,700 depending on experience

For new hires, offers are generally within the established min- to mid-point of the range for the role, with flexibility to recognize experience, skills, and education.
