Summary
You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Mechanical) in the Engineering and Planning Department, SUBSAFE Program Office at PSNS and IMF.

  • You will ensure the shipyard and intermediate maintenance facility's (IMF) instructions, procedures, directives, processes, production and quality programs comply with Fly-By-Wire and Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) program requirements.
  • You will analyze and recommend quality improvements of complex shipyard programs that support critical submarine work.
  • You will review engineering instructions and procedures including ability to develop new approaches and modify standard practices, techniques, and/ or procedures.
  • You will manage and evaluate programs which encompass a wide variety of disciplines and functional organizations.
  • You will provide SUBSAFE program oversight for work in progress.
  • You will be responsible to interpret instructions involving quality assurance forms requirements.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Interpreting instructions and directives to and prepare technical work documents, job plans, or engineering procedures, providing technical engineering and quality assurance advisory services to ensure compliance with the Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) in support of in-service shipboard systems.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
