Summary
The Structured Cabling Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems for telecommunication networks. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with hands-on experience in cabling, termination, and testing of various network systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and maintain structured cabling systems, fiber optics, and related components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs by troubleshooting cabling system issues
  • Ensure all installations comply with industry standards and company specifications.
  • Conduct testing on cabling systems using industry-standard testing equipment to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues related to cabling and network connectivity.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of cabling installations, configurations, and network diagrams.
  • Update and manage cabling inventory and project records.
  • Ensure all cabling installations meet the required codes and standards.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing client inquiries and concerns professionally.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and team members to ensure project success.
  • Testing of electrical and telecommunications components for continuity and proper voltage reading according to specifications.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while performing work on job sites.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Proficiency in installing and terminating various types of cabling (e.g., CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, fiber optics).
  • Experience with testing and troubleshooting tools (e.g., cable testers, OTDR, and network analyzers).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with clients and team members.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 20 pounds; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes regularly
  • Must be willing to travel out of market/state, for up to multipleweeks at a time (50%)
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing and participate in random testing program
  • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
  • Position requires working indoors and outdoors in all types of weather
  • Capability to work in various environments including heights, confined spaces, and outdoor conditions.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
  • This is a full-time position with a typical work scheduled of Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with overtime requirements; weekends as needed.

Travel
  • Travel is required for this position; usually between 50 to 90% of the time.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certification or degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in structured cabling or a related field.

License and Certifications
  • Valid and clear driver's license
  • Relevant certifications such as BICSI Installer I/II, Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT), or equivalent preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
