About the Team
Fanatics TCG is a new trading card game business, the newest member of the Fanatics Collectibles family. We are here to build the best TCG studio and games in the world.
If you have passion, and skill, and if you believe trading card games represent the very best of what games have to offer, please reach out to us.
Role Summary
Fanatics Collectibles is building the future of trading card games.
The Fanatics TCG studio is creating the next generation of global TCG franchises - combining compelling IP, innovative gameplay systems, and premium collectible objects.
At the core of every great TCG is clarity.
Players must be able to understand what cards do, how systems work, and how interactions resolve - across thousands of cards and many years of evolution.
We are seeking a Rules Editor to help define and maintain the language of the game.
This role sits at the intersection of game design, editorial, and systems design - ensuring that every card is expressed with precision, consistency, and readability, while contributing to the long-term integrity of the rules system.
The ideal candidate combines exceptional attention to detail, strong editorial instincts, and a deep understanding of game systems.
What You'll Do
Define and Maintain Rules Templating
  • Develop and maintain the rules templating standards for the game.
  • Establish consistent language for how mechanics, abilities, and interactions are expressed.
  • Ensure that templating scales across thousands of cards and evolving mechanics.

Edit Card Text for Clarity and Consistency
  • Review and edit card names, rules text, and supporting text for clarity, correctness, and consistency.
  • Ensure that cards communicate their function clearly to both new and experienced players.
  • Balance precision with readability, maintaining a clear and approachable voice.

Partner Closely with Game Design
  • Work with designers to translate mechanics into clear, rules-accurate card text.
  • Identify ambiguities, edge cases, and unintended interactions early in the design process.
  • Provide feedback that improves both card clarity and system coherence.

Support Rules System Development
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the comprehensive rules system.
  • Help ensure alignment between card text and underlying rules.
  • Identify gaps or inconsistencies in rules and propose solutions.

Build Editorial Standards and Processes
  • Establish workflows for card editing, review, and approval.
  • Help define style guides and editorial standards for the game.
  • Partner with production and tools teams to integrate editorial into the card creation pipeline.

Ensure Long-Term System Integrity
  • Think beyond individual cards to ensure the system remains coherent, extensible, and resilient over time.
  • Help future-proof templating and rules decisions as new mechanics are introduced.
  • Maintain a high bar for accuracy, consistency, and player comprehension.

What You Bring
  • 3-8+ years of experience in editing, rules design, or similar roles in games, publishing, or technical writing.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work with precision and consistency at scale.
  • Strong understanding of game systems and how rules interact.
  • Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, concise language.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, especially design and production.
  • Passion for trading card games, tabletop games, or systems-driven design.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with trading card games or tabletop rules systems.
  • Background in technical writing, editing, or structured content systems.
  • Familiarity with rules templating or card text development.
  • Experience contributing to style guides or editorial standards.
