Job description

Solar Installer – Build Commercial Rooftop Solar Projects Across the Mid-Atlantic

Job Overview:

  • Company: Pfister Energy
  • Salary/Pay Rate: $28 to $50 per hour plus Fixed Bonus
  • Location: Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with regional travel across PA, MD, DE, and NJ
  • Job/Employment Type: Full Time
  • Project Scope: Commercial Rooftop and Ground-Mount Solar
  • Mandatory Licences & Certifications: None

The Opportunity:

You will play a pivotal role in constructing high-impact commercial and utility-scale solar projects across the Mid-Atlantic region. Joining a stable, non-union contractor with over 900 MW installed since 2005 means you will escape the uncertainty of seasonal layoffs and agency limbo. This role offers a direct path to leadership for hard-working professionals who want to build a career in renewable energy.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Install commercial solar racking, panels, modules, ballast systems, rooftop attachments, and ground-mount solar systems.
  • Support commercial, industrial, and municipal solar energy projects across the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and jobsite equipment safely on active commercial projects.
  • Follow strict fall protection protocols and safety procedures while working at elevated heights.
  • Stage, organize, and handle heavy materials efficiently on rooftops and throughout jobsites.
  • Interpret construction layouts, blueprints, and project specifications to ensure accurate installations.
  • Support equipment pad layout and underground conduit work as needed.
  • Coordinate directly with site supervision and project managers to meet daily production goals.
  • At leadership levels, lead daily installation workflows, run toolbox talks, mentor junior crew members, and help keep projects on schedule.

Role Levels, Required Experience & Preferred Qualifications

Pfister Energy is hiring multiple levels of solar installation talent. Pay will be based on experience level, with entry-level solar installers starting toward the lower end of the range and experienced foreman-level candidates aligned toward the higher end.

Solar Installer

  • Required Experience:
  • Outdoor construction, roofing, masonry, steel work, mechanical trade, solar, or similar hands-on field experience.
  • Comfortable working outdoors, on rooftops, and in variable weather conditions.
  • Comfortable working at heights; fear of heights is a disqualifier.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders when needed, and perform physical work safely.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle required.
  • Willingness to travel regionally across PA, MD, DE, and NJ, including overnight stays when needed.
  • Strong attendance, safety mindset, work ethic, and willingness to build a long-term career in the trades.
  • Preferred Experience:
  • 2+ years of construction, roofing, mechanical trade, or outdoor labor experience.
  • Prior commercial solar installation experience.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Solar Crew Lead

  • Required Experience:
  • Prior solar, construction, roofing, mechanical, or related field experience.
  • Ability to take direction from foremen and help lead small groups of installers.
  • Ability to support material staging, daily workflow, production goals, and jobsite safety.
  • Comfortable reading basic construction layouts, project drawings, or installation plans.
  • Ability to keep crew members focused, productive, and working safely.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and willingness to travel regionally.
  • Preferred Experience:
  • Commercial rooftop or ground-mount solar experience.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior crew members.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience with equipment pad layout, underground conduit coordination, or material tracking.

Solar Foreman

  • Required Experience:
  • Strong field leadership experience on commercial solar, roofing, construction, mechanical, or similar projects.
  • Ability to lead crews and manage daily installation workflow from start to finish.
  • Ability to coordinate with construction managers, site supervision, and project managers.
  • Ability to manage materials, scheduling risks, weather delays, quality, safety, and production.
  • Ability to read layouts, identify field issues, and keep the project moving without heavy supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and willingness to travel regionally.
  • Preferred Experience:
  • 8+ years of relevant field experience for top-of-range foreman-level consideration.
  • Commercial rooftop and/or ground-mount solar project experience.
  • Experience running larger crews on active commercial jobsites.
  • Experience with toolbox talks, inspections, material planning, and field coordination.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Strong track record of stepping onto active projects and contributing from day one.

Hard Requirements / Disqualifiers

  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle. Relying on someone else for rides is not acceptable for this role.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working at heights. Fear of heights is an automatic disqualifier.
  • Candidates must be willing to travel regionally up to 60% of the time, including overnight stays when needed.
  • Candidates with no outdoor construction, roofing, trade, or field labor experience are not a fit, even if they are interested in solar.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly pay with a steady weekly pay cycle.
  • Prevailing wage pay adjustments on qualifying public works projects.
  • 401(k) retirement savings program with company matching contributions.
  • Full medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Health Reimbursement Arrangement to help cover out-of-pocket medical costs.
  • Company-paid travel expenses including hotel stays and daily per diem.
  • Paid time off for vacations, sick leave, and company holidays.
  • Paid training, apprenticeship pathways, and company-funded safety certifications.
  • All required personal protective equipment and field safety gear provided.
  • Financial rewards through the employee referral bonus program.
  • Per Diem & Lodging: $100 daily per diem plus 100% company-paid hotel costs for all travel nights.
  • Mileage: Foreman positions receive IRS-standard mileage reimbursement.
  • Company Vehicle: Electrical Foremen become vehicle-eligible at 3 months; Mechanical Foremen become vehicle-eligible at 6 months.
