Job description

Job Purpose:

The Semiconductor Test Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining test processes for semiconductor devices, with a strong focus on high power laser diode products. This role ensures reliable performance verification, smooth production flow, and effective transfer of new designs from R&D into manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain test processes for semiconductor devices, including laser diode chips, bars, arrays, and higher‑level assemblies.
  • Troubleshoot production line test issues, identify root causes, and implement engineering-driven corrective actions.
  • Analyze test data to characterize device performance, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Validate and implement design changes, ensuring test readiness, documentation updates, and process stability.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Product Development, and Manufacturing to support new product introduction (NPI) and ensure seamless test integration.
  • Optimize test equipment, fixtures, and software, improving throughput, accuracy, and repeatability.
  • Support yield improvement initiatives by identifying failure modes and recommending process or design enhancements.
  • Maintain compliance with quality standards, safety requirements, and manufacturing best practices.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Experience with semiconductor device testing, optoelectronics, or laser diode characterization.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, especially in high‑volume manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with automated test equipment (ATE), data acquisition systems, and statistical analysis tools.
  • Ability to interpret electrical/optical test data and correlate results to device physics.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work cross functionally.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with high power laser diodes or photonics components or discrete semiconductors.
  • Knowledge of reliability testing, burn in processes, and failure analysis techniques.
  • Programming experience (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar) for test automation.
  • Understanding of SPC, DOE, and other process control methodologies.
