Job description

The Senior Credit Analyst is responsible for independently underwriting complex commercial credit requests and providing clear, well-supported recommendations to the Bank's lending and credit teams. This position analyzes borrowers, guarantors, financial performance, repayment capacity, collateral, industry conditions, and transaction structure across a diversified commercial loan portfolio. This position partners closely with commercial lenders, provides ongoing portfolio guidance, assists with borrower and prospect meetings, and mentors less-experienced credit analysts. The position reports to a Chief Credit Officer and supports the Bank's credit policies, risk-management standards, and regulatory compliance obligations. Job Responsibilities: Independently underwrite new commercial loans, renewals, modifications, and annual reviews involving complex borrowing relationships.Analyze commercial real estate, investment real estate, C&I, operating line, construction and development, and SBA loan requests.Spreading financial statements and evaluating an entity's historical performance including strengths and weaknesses.Researching and analyzing industry trends and economic factors affecting the business.Perform cash flow, collateral, ratio, and trend analysis on borrower and/or guarantors.Prepare complete, accurate, and well-supported credit presentations for approval by the appropriate lending authority or loan committee.Preparing detailed narratives of company background, management expertise, and financial performance.Partner with commercial lenders to gather information, evaluate transaction structure, and resolve underwriting questions.Assess strengths, weaknesses, major risk factors, overall risk, and Bank's ability to mitigate key risks identified.Identify key credit risks and mitigating factors and recommend appropriate loan structures, covenants, collateral requirements, reporting requirements, and risk ratings.Review compliance with Loan Policy and Procedures (e.g. LTV, lending limits, collateral, etc.).Document loan policy exceptions (e.g. LTV, lending limits, collateral, etc.).Compiling the required information and documents.Participate in credit presentation at loan committee.Being a resource for others on Loan Policy and Lending Procedures.Monitoring loan renewals and collaborating with Lenders to obtain all required documents and information to maintain timely loan renewals.Monitor financial statement exceptions and assist Lenders in collecting the necessary information.Providing recommendations on loan structure and courses of action.Coordinating the order of commercial real estate appraisals and evaluations.Assist with the internal review of real estate valuations (e.g. appraisals, evaluations, validations).Identifying and recommending additional business and personal services for new and existing clients.Collection efforts and other support as needed (e.g. OREO, inspections, etc.).Support Loan Operations in documentation and ensuring lending policies and procedures are followed on an ongoing basis.Recommend risk rating changes when applicable.Assist with the Bank's annual review and portfolio stress testing processes.Service and maintain covenant tracking spreadsheet.Mentor junior credit analysts by reviewing work, explaining credit concepts, and providing guidance on financial analysis and underwriting practices.Interact by phone and in person with customers, prospects, and COI's to obtain critical information for loan analysis and underwriting.Remain informed about economic, industry, and regulatory developments that may affect the Bank's commercial loan portfolio.Attend outside trainings and report information to the team.Provide administrative support and other duties as needed. Complete all work by following established policies and operating procedures.Treat all client inquiries, questions, complaints with respect and follow through.Maintain the Bank's goal to be accessible to the client and to provide premium quality service.Maintain a high level of ethical behavior with clients and prospects.Assist the Bank in keeping abreast of the competition in terms of rates, services, and products.Be aware of and support the Bank's efforts in meeting Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).Help in the ongoing management of the Bank's loan management software. Skillset & Experience:Effective communication when working with customers and/or employees.Ability to communicate with employees and understand their functions/processes.Be involved in developing solutions to meet the needs of the customer and/or employees.Flexibility to meet changing workload; highly self-motivated.Be a team player and be respectful to all staff, customers, and prospects. Provide leadership where assigned. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable software.Demonstrated ability to independently underwrite complex commercial credit relationships.Must be detail-oriented with effective written and verbal communication skills.Must be familiar with accounting principles.Be familiar with banking laws, regulations, policies, and practices preferred. Strong organizational skills.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to articulate in front of others. Must possess a desire to learn and expand knowledge across the organization. Must be flexible and patient. Bachelor's degree in finance, business, accounting, or economics preferred. 3+ years of progressively responsible commercial credit analysis or underwriting experience.Banking experience required. Working Conditions:Must be able to sit for periods greater than 45 minutes at a time.Must be able to stand for periods greater than 30 minutes at a time. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.Must be able to use computer monitors for periods greater than 45 minutes at a time.Must be able to perform basic typing functions.Some area travel – approximately 5%. Note: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
