Job description

Park Avenue Group, a division of Angott Search Group,  is pleased to partner with a respected financial institution in the search for a Senior Commercial Credit Analyst. This position will play a critical role in evaluating and underwriting complex commercial, commercial real estate, and other credit requests while providing lenders and senior leadership with thoughtful, well-supported credit analysis. 


The Senior Commercial Credit Analyst will work closely with lending and credit teams, independently managing complex transactions and serving as a trusted resource throughout the underwriting and portfolio management process. 


What You'll Do: 

  • Underwrite new commercial, commercial real estate, and consumer credit requests, including renewals, modifications, annual reviews, and loan increases. 
  • Prepare comprehensive credit approval memoranda outlining borrower and guarantor background, loan purpose, sources of repayment, financial performance, risk factors, and recommendations. 
  • Spread and analyze business and personal tax returns, financial statements, K-1s, rent rolls, personal financial statements, projections, and other supporting documentation. 
  • Evaluate cash flow, debt service coverage, global debt service coverage, liquidity, leverage, collateral, guarantor strength, and repayment capacity. 
  • Apply the Five Cs of Credit to all credit decisions: Capacity, Capital, Collateral, Character, and Conditions.  
  • Research industry trends and market conditions affecting existing and prospective borrowers. 
  • Review appraisals, environmental reports, construction reviews, property inspections, and other collateral documentation. 
  • Pre-screen prospective loans, modifications, and increases and recommend loan amount, structure, terms, covenants, and whether to proceed. 
  • Identify and escalate red flags, emerging risks, covenant violations, and early warning indicators. 
  • Monitor covenant compliance and communicate concerns to lending and credit leadership.
  • Communicate with borrowers as needed to obtain financial information, clarify underwriting questions, and understand business objectives. 
  • Collaborate with Loan Servicing and other internal teams to resolve pre-closing credit conditions. 
  • Assist with collateral monitoring, portfolio stress testing, and other credit risk initiatives. 
  • Maintain accurate credit files and ensure compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and risk-rating requirements. 
  • Coach and mentor Credit Analysts and Credit Specialists, helping develop their skills and ability to manage increasingly complex transactions. 


What You Bring: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of five years of commercial credit underwriting or analysis experience, including complex commercial and/or commercial real estate transactions. 
  • Formal credit training through a bank, institutional lender, RMA, ABA, or comparable program required. 
  • Strong understanding of commercial credit analysis, financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, collateral evaluation, and risk assessment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial statements, tax returns, projections, and other financial information. 
  • Strong financial statement spreading skills and proficiency with financial analysis software; Sageworks or similar experience preferred. 
  • Experience preparing sophisticated commercial credit memoranda. 
  • Intermediate-to-advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong financial and credit vocabulary. 
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, judgment, and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to independently manage complex credit requests and collaborate effectively with lenders, credit leadership, and other internal partners. 
  • Experience coaching or mentoring junior credit professionals preferred.
