Job Description

Responsible for approving the extension of credit and/or making recommendations to the person(s) making the final lending decisions on new, renewal, extension, and SBA-guaranteed loans to approve or deny the extension of credit. Prior to making the credit decision or advising the person(s) making the final credit decision, the Credit Analyst conducts a complete credit analysis including gathering, analyzing, and interpreting all types of credit information on existing and prospective customers. This includes evaluating borrower eligibility, repayment capacity, collateral adequacy, and compliance with SBA lending guidelines and program requirements.

Reviews customer accounts and portfolios, including SBA 7(a) and 504 loans, to identify, evaluate, and determine the appropriate course of action on potential credit quality, servicing, and compliance issues in order to maximize credit quality, preserve SBA guaranty eligibility, and minimize risk and potential loss to the company. Responsible for analyzing financial statements, cash flow, collateral, and industry trends while ensuring adherence to bank credit policy and SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

May use technological tools, including computer software, to assist in the credit analysis process by helping evaluate a particular credit or portfolio. The Credit Analyst will use such tools to compare and evaluate possible courses of action and will make recommendations and/or decisions after various possibilities are considered. Works closely with lending, underwriting, servicing, and portfolio management teams to support SBA lending initiatives and ensure accurate credit documentation and risk assessment.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Typically six or more years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Strong credit analysis and analytical skills

  • Thorough knowledge of credit analysis, credit administration, credit policy and procedures, and risk analysis

  • Thorough knowledge of SBA lending programs, including SBA 7(a) and 504 loan structures, underwriting considerations, and servicing requirements

  • Background in economics, accounting, and/or finance

  • Effective technical report writing skills, including preparation of credit memorandums and loan approval packages

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient computer navigation skills using a variety of software packages

  • Experience reviewing financial statements, personal and business tax returns, cash flow analyses, collateral valuations, and guarantor support for SBA lending transactions

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SBA 7(a) and 504 loan programs, including underwriting, portfolio monitoring, servicing, and annual review processes

  • Familiarity with SBA SOP 50 10

  • Knowledge of SBA eligibility, guaranty preservation, collateral, and compliance requirements

  • Proficiency in nCino, AFS, and Excel

  • Effective technical writing skills for credit memorandums, annual reviews, and credit approval documentation

  • Ability to identify and escalate portfolio, servicing, and compliance risks associated with SBA-guaranteed loans

  • Experience partnering with relationship managers, underwriters, and servicing teams to support small business lending objectives

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $111,095.00 - $130,700.00
