What You Will Do
This position is open for external candidates only to apply.
The selected candidate will support the Waste Characterization, Reduction, and Repackaging Facility (WCRRF) as a member of the Glovebox downsizing team. Glovebox downsizing operations consist of receipt and shipment of waste containers, moving containers and gloveboxes using forklifts and lifting tables, performing manual downsizing of gloveboxes, and packaging glovebox pieces into appropriate waste containers. Specific duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to handling drums and/or other containers of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes, operating forklifts and/or other mechanical loading/handling equipment.
This role is critical in ensuring that downsizing operations at WCRRF are conducted safely and efficiently.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Knowledge and experience with handling and/or transporting hazardous waste.
  • Knowledge of Type A and B shipping containers, waste processing, safety basis, and conduct of operations principles
  • Ability to understand inspection and/or characterization data on waste containers.
  • Experience in following detailed operating procedures, shift orders, and/or facility standing orders
  • Ability to aid in the preparation of waste handling reports.
  • Experience working in radiological areas, or the ability to qualify as a Radiological Worker
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of a formal conduct of operations program or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education/Experience: Position requires an Associate's degree and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
DOE Order 426.2A: Requires a High School Diploma.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience working in a nuclear facility
  • HAZWOPER and RCRA certification; Forklift and crane operator.
  • HMPT Certification

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
