Job description

 Salary: $18.52 / Hour | Full-Time | Ypsilanti, MI 

We have partnered with a large manufacturing company in the Ypsilanti, MI area to provide them with a Machine Assistant.  Please review the description below and let us know if you are interested.

Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Machine Assistant:

#1. Must have Mechanical Aptitude Test score of no less than 38.

#2. Must have the ability to handle up to 50lbs.

#3. Must have general manufacturing, and tool handling experience.

#4. No more than 3 jobs over the past 10 years.

Responsibilities for the Machine Assistant:

Monitors all chemicals, maintains proper viscosity/PH, mixes inks, maintains chillers, paper roll handling, and consumption of raw materials.  Assists during make-readies, as well as assisting Operators as needed.  Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Responsible for new roll preparation, printed roll transfer to offline Die/Fold WIP position, ink handling, maintaining ink viscosity/PH, organizing ink inventory, consuming raw materials, and keeping work area clean.  This position participates in Press make readies, is actively involved with machine preventative maintenance, roll tag process, Cold Foil roll tending, and other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for new roll preparation and printed roll transfer to offline Die/Fold WIP position – 30%
  • Ink handling, ink viscosity and PH, organizing ink inventory – 30%
  • Participates in Press make readies – 10%
  • Actively involved with machine preventative maintenance(cleaning), roll tag process, and Cold Foil tending – 20%
  • Other duties as assigned – 10%

Requirements for the Machine Assistant:

  • High School Diploma or GED.  Mechanical Aptitude Test score of no less than 38.
  • This is an entry level position in the pressroom. Printing, general manufacturing, and tool handling experience are an asset.

Required Knowledge:

  • Risk Management (level 1) – Operates in accordance with organizational practices
  • Understands flexo/digital printing press manufacturing process
  • Able to differentiate between different types of stock, ink, cold foil, and quality issues with raw materials
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, ERP systems, and production scheduling

Required Abilities:

  • Self-starter
  • Problem-solving (level 1) – Responds to issues by offering solutions that fall within the positional responsibilities, involves others as required
  • Critical Thinking (level 1) – Gathers details and information to effectively respond to requests
  • Analytical Thinking (level 1) – Responds to and recognizes discrepancies and components of a situation.

Physical Demands:

  • Handling 20 – 25 lbs. anilox sleeves, 15 – 20 lbs. plate sleeves, 45-50 lbs. pails of ink, and drums of ink up to 650 lbs.
  • Must wear steel toe shoes, hearing protection and other PPE as required 
  • Must be able to lift, push or pull 50lbs
