Job description

Position Summary: The Sales LTT (Lifting & Transportation Trainee) is a structured development program designed to build technical competence, commercial awareness, and professional maturity within Barnhart's lifting, rigging, and heavy transportation business.
The program offers two tracks based on candidate background and branch needs.
  1. The Standard Track is a two-year, field-heavy rotational program providing extensive hands-on exposure to operations, job planning, and sales support functions before transitioning into a customer-facing role.
  2. The Accelerated Commercial Track is a one-year path designed for high-potential candidates who demonstrate strong commercial aptitude and readiness for earlier customer-facing responsibility. It combines abbreviated field immersion with active participation in Barnhart's Sales Process, pricing discussions, and Top Account development activities.

Both tracks share the same foundational objective: prepare the individual for advancement into a customer-facing sales role such as Crane & Rigging Sales Representative or Project Sales Representative. Track assignment and advancement are based on demonstrated performance, readiness, and alignment with branch needs.
Travel is expected for jobsite exposure, training assignments, and branch development activities, with frequency varying based on program rotation and branch needs.
Responsibilities and Principal Duties:
  • Safety & Risk Awareness: Support safety as a core value by learning Barnhart's jobsite standards, identifying hazards during field exposure, and developing disciplined judgment around safe execution practices.
  • Structured Development Program: Actively participate in a structured training program-Standard Track (two years) or Accelerated Commercial Track (one year)- focused on technical knowledge, operational understanding, and professional growth. Track is determined by demonstrated potential, branch needs, and leadership assessment.
  • Field-Based Training: Complete extensive field assignments working alongside rigging crews and field teams to develop firsthand understanding of equipment, lift execution, and safe lifting practices.
  • Rotational Experience: Progress through seasonal assignments across field operations, dispatch coordination, job planning, and sales support functions to gain a comprehensive understanding of how Barnhart delivers work.
  • Operational Exposure: Participate in jobsite visits, project walkdowns, and execution support activities to understand crane and rigging applications, site constraints, and decision-making processes.
  • Sales Process Development: Learn and observe Barnhart's Sales Process-Discover, Present, Consult, and Close-in preparation for future customer-facing responsibility. Accelerated Commercial Track participants actively participate in discovery meetings, customer presentations, Top Account development, and pricing discussions alongside experienced Sales Representatives.
  • Customer & Sales Support: Assist Sales Representatives and Account Managers with coordination, responsiveness, and service-oriented communication while maintaining appropriate role boundaries.
  • Technical Development: Build foundational knowledge of lifting and transportation solutions, including lift planning basics, equipment capabilities, and execution considerations.
  • Internal Coordination: Support documentation, scheduling awareness, job preparation activities, and communication between sales and operations teams.
  • Commercial & Pricing Development: Build foundational understanding of NBA pricing principles and value-based positioning through observation and, for Accelerated Commercial Track participants, active involvement in pricing discussions, proposal preparation, and estimating support under the guidance of Sales Representatives and branch leadership.
  • Performance & Advancement: Demonstrate measurable growth in technical understanding, commercial capability, communication effectiveness, and cultural alignment. Advancement into a Crane & Rigging Sales Representative or Project Sales Representative role is based on demonstrated readiness, performance, and alignment with branch needs.
  • Professional Growth & Cultural Alignment: Demonstrate coachability, humility, strong work ethic, and a team-first mindset consistent with Barnhart's culture. Exhibit industriousness, initiative, and accountability while contributing positively to the One Team environment.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma required. College coursework or degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Entry-level position intended for individuals early in their career with limited prior industry experience.
  • Aptitude: Strong interest in developing technical knowledge and progressing toward a customer-facing sales career. Candidates for the Accelerated Commercial Track should demonstrate strong commercial aptitude, initiative, and readiness for earlier customer-facing responsibility.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in both field and office environments.
  • Work Ethic: Demonstrates reliability, willingness to learn, and the ability to perform in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to participate in jobsite visits including time outdoors and climbing. Must pass a fit for duty exam.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel for jobsite exposure, training activities, and branch development opportunities.
