Location: Brookfield Public Schools - Whisconier Middle School
Position Type: Reading Specialist, Middle School
Important Dates: August 20 & 21: New Hire Orientation
August 24th: First Day for Current Teaching Staff
August 27th : First Day for Students
Description:
  • Provide targeted reading instruction and intervention to middle school students based on individual literacy needs and areas of growth.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based reading instruction aligned with curriculum standards and students' instructional needs.
  • Assess student reading skills using a variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to monitor progress and inform instruction.
  • Analyze student data and collaborate with teachers to develop and adjust appropriate reading interventions and instructional strategies.
  • Support students in developing reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, phonics/decoding, and other foundational literacy skills as appropriate.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement, confidence, and a love of reading.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, counselors, administrators, and families to support student literacy development and overall academic success.
  • Provide consultation and instructional support to classroom teachers regarding literacy strategies, interventions, and differentiated instruction.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate student needs and growth to appropriate staff and families.
  • Participate in professional development, grade-level/team meetings, school events, and other responsibilities as required.
  • Training or certification in the Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson Reading System approach is strongly preferred.
  • Qualified candidates must hold a valid CSDE 102 cert.
