Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.\r\n\r\n\r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**\r\n\r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this\r\nclassification exists is to perform entry-level survey engineering work in the\r\nfield as part of a survey crew. As experience is acquired, the incumbent\r\nwill perform with increasing independence. Responsibilities include working as\r\nthe instrument person with the surveying crew or performing as a lead worker\r\nwhen the crew chief is absent. This classification differs from the Engineering\r\nTechnician IIs in that the assignments are more complex and require a higher\r\nlevel of independent decision-making. Specific work assignments are received\r\nfrom the Professional Land Surveyor; however, the work is conducted under the\r\ndirect supervision of the Engineering Technician II and is typically reviewed\r\nduring progress and upon completion.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of\r\nexperience working on basic surveying tasks such as measuring distances on\r\nballfields, Right-of-Ways, playgrounds or other areas requiring staking out\r\nground for accurate measurements.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience\r\nthat provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job\r\nwill be considered.\r\n\r\n

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid\r\nAlabama Driver's License and an insurable driving record to operate a city\r\nvehicle.\r\n\r\n\r\nWORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors,\r\noften in environments with loud noise and hazards related to traffic control\r\nand construction, including exposure to fast-moving vehicles. Employees may\r\nalso encounter adverse weather conditions such as rain, extreme heat, or cold.\r\nThe position may require irregular hours, including nights, weekends, or\r\nholidays, particularly during special events or emergencies. Physical\r\nrequirements include the ability to walk, crawl, stand, bend, stoop, and\r\noperate a motor vehicle.\r\n\r\n

Kind of Examination

The current vacancy is with theCity ofMontgomery Engineering Department.Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection test will used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken.
