Industrial Engineer (Entry level)

The Industrial Engineering team within Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking Entry Level Industrial Engineers (Level 1) to join our growing team located in either Everett, Renton, Seattle, or Auburn, Washington, USA locations. The ideal candidate will apply business acumen and knowledge to partner with cross functional teams from production operations, engineering, quality, supplier management, materials management, and program management to achieve organizational business goals and objectives.

Position Overview:

As a member of our Industrial Engineering organization, you will be responsible for supporting a production team or organization directly integrated with the Boeing Production System. Typical entry- and associate-level roles include analyzing performance to daily schedules or orders, learning and improving the production processes, reducing or eliminate safety and ergonomic issues, utilizing root cause and trend analysis to drive improvements to quality defects, and the reduction of non-value added work to improve cost and flow. Depending on the internal and external impacts to the team, you may be building disruption recovery plans using resource capacity and constraint analysis to get back to the baseline plan while working to mitigate impacts to the downstream work statement and major milestones.

Candidates will be directly engaged with our airplane products and will be collaborating with all manufacturing, engineering, and production-supporting organizations and should be a self-starter as well as a team player. Our IE teams are very busy focused on stabilizing the current production system while looking ahead at future rate changes and introduction of new derivatives and customers into our build plans.

Our business units provide you the opportunity to learn all aspects of the Aerospace Manufacturing environment and allow you to explore and learn the complete production system from supply chain production readiness, to fabrication of raw materials, assembly and installation, and supporting deliveries to our customers around the world.

Position Descriptions

All tasks below are conducted with oversight from an experienced team member and include introduction and training in the specific processes and standard templates used by the business unit and program.

  • Applies industrial engineering concepts, approaches and techniques to product, process and services to meet program requirements.
  • Supports the development of plant and equipment layouts, capacity plans, accident prevention measures, sequencing of operations and work flows.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new techniques and technological developments for integration into the production process and service operations.
  • Assists with designing, maintaining, and optimizing the production system by integrating design, supply base, facilities, equipment, and personnel.
  • Conducts basic work flow design and analysis.
  • Develops simple models, databases and spreadsheets to analyze data and provides summary analysis and metrics for consultation to leaders.
  • Supports research, design, develop, improve, and implementation of processes and tools to enhance schedule performance, lower cost, and improve quality, for large scale systems integration and asset utilization.
  • Supports implementation plans and programs for facility/factory modifications and revisions to operating methods.
  • Documents product assembly instructions and standardizes assembly practices.
  • Supports the preparation of operations plans, includes work statement analysis, budgeting and forecasts, capacity and constraint analysis and production change, to ensure technical goals and objectives are met.
  • Supports execution planning by using project management, planning and scheduling and shop load practices.
  • Provides production, supply chain logistics, performance visibility and recovery planning support.
  • Follows compliance requirements with established industry safety, design standards and ergonomic guidelines.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, and/or a production environment
  • Exposure to working in a team environment.
  • Exposure or application of Lean Manufacturing with knowledge of lean principles
  • Exposure or application of Project Management skills

Shift:

This position is to support 1st shift (start times dependent on organization), with some collaboration possible between 2nd and 3rd shift.
