Job Description

AECOM is seeking an entry-level engineering professional to participate in a specialized, 24-month development program at our client site. The Turnpike GEC (General Engineering Consultant) Academy, led by Florida's Turnpike Enterprise, is designed to cultivate the next generation of transportation leaders through structured, real-world engineering experience.

In this role, you will work alongside the Turnpike's GEC team, gaining hands-on exposure to planning, design, tolling, operations, and construction activities unique to the Turnpike system.

The GEC Academy provides foundational skills that support career growth. Participants rotate through multiple disciplines to understand how complex toll road systems are developed, managed, and maintained. The program begins in October 2026 with a 12-month rotational phase across key Turnpike departments including planning, environmental management, design, program management, construction, materials, maintenance, traffic operations, tolling and others. The subsequent 12-month immersion phase will focus on one selected area of interest. Throughout the program, participants receive mentorship from senior engineers and industry leaders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist staff with technical tasks, data collection, and project analysis.
  • Participate in rotations across disciplines such as roadway, structures, traffic operations, planning, tolling, and construction.
  • Support development of plans, reports, and technical documentation in accordance with FDOT standards.
  • Perform field reviews, site visits, and data collection activities to support engineering decisions.
  • Prepare graphics, presentations, and exhibits for internal and external meetings.
  • Attend workshops, training sessions, and presentations hosted by Turnpike leadership and GEC mentors.
  • Participate in team meetings to observe project delivery, stakeholder coordination, and program management processes.
  • Deliver regular presentations summarizing key take aways from each rotation.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree from an ABET-accredited university. 
  • Ability to work in both office and outdoor field environments.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with CAD, modeling software, or GIS is a plus.
  • Collaborative mindset and a professional, client-focused approach

  • In-state travel is a requirement for this role. 
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
