Job Title: Power Electronics Engineer

Location: Blacksburg, Virginia

Relocation Assistance: Available

Base Salary: $105,000

Industry: Aerospace / Aviation / Defense


Role Overview:

The Power & Data team within the Space and Defense division is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to support the design and development of advanced power conversion systems. Projects range from low-power point-of-load converters to high-power resonant converters used in next-generation wireless power transmission systems, with applications spanning 10W to 10kW+.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of power electronics design experience.
  • Strong understanding of power converter topologies and circuit analysis.
  • Experience with control loop theory and analysis.
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools such as PSIM, MATLAB, or similar.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with magnetic circuit simulation and analysis using ANSYS Maxwell or similar tools.
  • Experience designing transformers, inductors, and magnetic components.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, simulate, test, and troubleshoot power electronics circuits and converters.
  • Lead small project teams on power electronics development efforts.
  • Analyze customer requirements and translate them into system-level designs.
  • Develop thermal management solutions for power electronic systems.
  • Design with consideration for EMI/EMC requirements.
  • Perform magnetic component design and evaluation.
