Position Summary:
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Provider, this position acts as an assist during endoscopic procedures and reprocessing per regulatory standards. Prepares procedure rooms for use and cleans the rooms and equipment after use.
Assists with maintaining an efficient technical operation in the Endoscopy Unit with the goal of optimal patient care during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Demonstrates appropriate clinical practice and promotes patient advocacy.
This role performs in a high activity work environment with multiple priorities and necessitates flexibility in scheduling.

Position Responsibilities:
Key Areas of Responsibility
• Performs all duties in accordance with HHC policies, procedures and practices, and regulatory requirements. Models HHC values and H3W behaviors.
• Follows AAMI, SGNA, AORN, Joint Commission, CDC, IFUs, State and Federal Guidelines.
• Prepares patients and treatment room for procedures following all established policies, procedures and standards:
o Checks the integrity of supplies and equipment needed for the endoscopic procedure and ensures that equipment is in proper working order.
o Uses proper techniques in all phases of the procedure and at all times.
o Sets up equipment and supplies and maintains organization throughout the procedure.
o Maintains carts and equipment in clean working condition and stores in appropriate area when completed
o Assists with the positioning of patients
• Works with the RN and provider to assist with appropriate care during procedures
• Performs high-level disinfection of endoscopic equipment and maintains scope repossessing equipment to ensure appropriate functioning following all established policies, procedures and standards.
• May be required to support other areas of surgical services included but not limited to Point of Care testing and EKG as directed by a registered nurse
• Transports patients, equipment and assists in the collection of specimens and transport of specimens to ensure timeliness of patient needs and information
• Monitors and Documents compliance with infection prevention measures in regard to scope reprocessing, repairs and new equipment
• Documents pertinent patient information on the medical record
• Models quality patient/customer service by: demonstrating a willingness to serve all customers; maintaining an awareness of patient needs utilizing tact, discretion and compassion; collaborating with other team members to ensure quality patient care
• Demonstrates competencies, including knowledge and behaviors for the patient population to meet age-specific needs
• Demonstrates willingness for self-improvement by collaborating with leadership to identify learning needs (reflective of organization and the individual) and seek instruction from appropriate resources
• Maintains inventories, orders, and restocks including dietary/laundry needs to ensure appropriate assessments and tools are available in a timely fashion
• Perform other related duties as required

Education
• High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
• Minimum: No experience required, training provided on-site.
• Preferred:
o Acute Clinical Experience
o Patient Care Technician
o Sterile Processing Technician
o Medical Assistant
Licensure, Certification, Registration
• Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
• Obtain 10 Continuing Education (CE) credits or departmental required certification within two years of hire or transfer date.
Language Skills
• Must be able to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information in English.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
• Knowledge of Infection Prevention principles.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to all patient elements, i.e. bloodborne pathogens.
• Ability to learn knowledge and understanding of radiology safety by completing required radiation safety education
• Demonstrated ability to identify unsafe practices and partner with team to correct (improper wearing of lead, dosimeters, damaged lead, broken equipment). Shares knowledge that is relevant and valuable with others to support safe practices.
• Basic computer skills in order to enter/retrieve data (opening/reading email, basic internet use).
• Ability to use skillful communication with members of the healthcare delivery team and with patients. Uses communication skills to foster a healthy work environment and facilitate positive patient outcomes and experience.
