Job Title: Mechanical Assembly Technician I
Job Description
The Mechanical Assembly Technician I performs basic routine tasks to support electronic assembly line production in a clean, temperature-controlled manufacturing environment. This full-time role follows a Monday through Thursday schedule from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with additional Saturday work as needed. You will help build large, intricate units from the ground up, using blueprints, wiring lists, and visual aids to complete complex mechanical and electrical assemblies.
Responsibilities
- Assemble units using visual aids, verbal and written instructions, wiring lists, and blueprints.
- Prepare parts for assembly, including organizing, inspecting, and staging components for production.
- Manually mask boards and ensure proper protection of components during assembly processes.
- Kit parts using a bar code reader and maintain accurate part identification and tracking.
- Install and route wiring, conduit, rails, cabinets, and mechanical parts according to wiring diagrams, schematics, and layout prints.
- Perform mechanical assembly and panel building, including control panel assembly and panel board build tasks.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for mechanical installation and machine building activities.
- Operate simple production equipment such as swage tools, wire preparation tools, contact systems, preset dies, and cut-off machines.
- Support the build of large units (approximately 8 feet tall and 16–20 feet in length) from base to completion, following detailed prints for layout and assembly.
- Contribute to point-to-point testing throughout installation to verify proper wiring and assembly according to client-specific blueprints.
- Follow ESD and safety procedures, and comply with all company security policies and operational guidelines.
- Work collaboratively within a team of 7–9 technicians in a cell-based assembly environment to meet production schedules and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle components with care to protect product quality.
- Be available to work Saturdays as needed and participate in overtime as required, within established hour limits.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support production and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of experience in mechanical installation and assembly or closely related fields such as millwright work, airframe mechanics, install technicians, maintenance, or panel building.
- Ability to read and comprehend English verbal and written instructions, wiring lists, and production documentation.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, graphs, and schematics related to mechanical and electrical assemblies.
- Proficiency in basic mechanical assembly, including installation of mechanical parts, panels, rails, and cabinets.
- Experience working with wiring and electrical components, including point-to-point wiring installation and testing.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively in a production or industrial environment.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in a production setting.
- Comfort working with industrial and production equipment such as swage tools, wire prep tools, contact systems, preset dies, and cut-off machines.
- Ability to operate a personal computer using a Windows-based operating system and related software.
- Knowledge of ESD practices and safety protocols in an electronic assembly environment.
- Ability to identify and distinguish components accurately (Component ID).
- High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in avionics, A&P, military maintenance, facilities maintenance, mechanical assembly technician roles, or millwright work is highly relevant and can lead to strong performance in this role.
- Experience in control panel assembly, panel building, or industrial machine building is a strong plus.
- Experience with soldering in an industrial or production environment.
- Familiarity with production processes involving large, intricate units and long build cycles (multi-day projects).
- Comfort working from detailed prints and client-specific blueprints that may vary by order.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based, cell production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and quality focus in both mechanical and electrical assembly work.
- Willingness to work overtime, including occasional Sundays, within defined hour limits.
- Experience in environments that require strict adherence to safety, ESD, and security procedures.

Work Environment
This role is based in an extremely clean, temperature-controlled manufacturing facility focused on electrical and mechanical assembly. The electrical assembly area consists of 11 cell stations (6 on one side and 5 on the other) with large, well-organized workspaces. Technicians work in teams of approximately 7–9 people per cell to assemble large units from the ground up, following detailed blueprints and specifications. The standard schedule is Monday through Thursday, 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with required openness to working Saturdays as needed. Overtime is available, with a firm limit of no more than 58 hours per week, and when in a permanent role, double time is provided for Sundays worked.
