Job description


A load planner is a logistics professional responsible for coordinating freight assignments, balancing factors like capacity, driver availability, and delivery deadlines. They optimize routing and equipment utilization to maximize efficiency, minimize downtime, and reduce transportation costs while meeting customer delivery expectations
The range is $55,000 - 75,000 per year. Exact salary offered will depend on candidate's experience, work location, skills, etc.

Duties:
  • Load Planning & Routing: Build, plan, and assign outbound/inbound shipments using Transportation Management Systems (TMS). Determine the best shipping modes and consolidate LTL or FTL loads.

  • Optimization: Calculate weight distribution, trailer capacity, and assess variables to maximize space and ensure safe transport.

  • Coordination & Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for dispatchers, warehouse operations, drivers, and customers.

  • Compliance & Documentation: Validate Bills of Lading (BOLs), proof of delivery (POD), and ensure adherence to DOT, EHS, and Federal Motor Carrier regulations.

  • Performance Tracking: Monitor in-transit loads, track delivery times, and compile KPI data (e.g., cost per load, on-time pickup percentages)

  • Schedule inbound truck deliveries and outbound freight pickups.

  • Inspect incoming items and compare them with purchase orders and packing lists.

  • Process bills of lading, airway bills, and tracking numbers via carriers like UPS or FedEx.

  • Identify, document, and resolve freight damage, missing items, and inventory discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment, including the loading dock, in accordance with company safety standards.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between vendors, drivers, and customer service to ensure clear communication and efficient issue resolution.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Entry level to 1 year of inventory, warehouse, and receiving experience.

  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment.

  • Communication skills necessary to coordinate activities among various parties, including internal and external customers and vendors.

  • Basic Math Skills.

  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.

  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and Outlook email.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.

  • Ability to wear all safety PPE required such as steel-toed shoes and earplugs when walking the plant floor.
