The Laboratory Technologist III is responsible for carrying out advanced research activities under the direction of the Principal Investigator and/or laboratory supervisor. This individual provides technical expertise to support the Principal Investigator's research program. Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
30% Research Activities: Conduct experiments for research projects. Carry out molecular laboratory experiments and conduct analysis of ddpcr and other data and interpret results. Works with the Principal Investigator and laboratory supervisory to carry out the activities of a high-complexity molecular laboratory focused on development and validation of ctDNA-based assays.
20% Performs specialized molecular examinations and procedures for the development, optimization, and validation of advanced assays for low-frequency variant detection.
10% Documents all research activities in approved laboratory notebooks (ELN) and updates data analyses as needed. Follows IRB, human subjects, ACUC, and other State, Institutional and Federal regulatory protocols, as needed. Ensures laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements and accepted scientific standards.
10% Generate reports as needed for the evaluation of project progress and performance.
10% Develops and implements technical and administrative policies, procedures, and protocols to support laboratory scalability, reproducibility, and quality.
10% Purchasing and Inventory Management : Assist laboratory supervisor in managing research inventory, ordering, and stocking of supplies and reagents.
10% Special Projects and Consultation: Prepares reports to advise principal investigators on possible research projects. Independently reads and designs potential experiments for consideration. Provides technical expertise to investigators and collaborators regarding future project design, feasibility, and implementation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology, microbiology, biochemistry or a closely related field and relevant experience in a clinical or research laboratory environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in an academic, translational, or biotechnology setting
- Demonstrated experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS), digital droplet PCR (ddPCR), liquid handling/automation platforms, and related molecular assay platforms and techniques preferred
- Strong organizational and project management skills
The Laboratory Technologist III plays a central role in ensuring operational excellence, scientific productivity, and effective collaboration across the department, school, and external partners.
