Job description

Job Title: Flat Welder
Basic Purpose of the Position:
To provide the highest quality, safety, and performance standards within grade in the Flat Welding department.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • Maintain production schedule
  • The ability to weld Black, Galvanized and Stainless Steel at the highest quality.
  • The ability to Mig weld meeting all quality and quantity standards.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance PM's that are the operator's responsibility
  • Complete all production and quality documentation
  • Assist in all other departments as required.
  • Maintain a high quality of weld appearance
  • Maintain a high production rate within the skill level averaging 85% and above
  • Make quality checks to ensure materials, parts and workmanship are compliant with engineering requirements and productions expectations

  • Demonstrate superior service skill(s) and professionalism in day-to-day dealings with coworkers, setting a good example in attendance and work ethics.

  • Ensures adherence to company policies and work rules, as well as ensuring a safe work environment is maintained

  • Strive to continually improve quality, safety, and productivity within your department.
  • Able to understand and follow all MAP's, PAP's, CRN, B31.5, ASME, TMI's, TPI's, and SOP's that pertain to the product
  • Able to complete all documents pertaining to the process
  • Safe operation of all overhead lifting cranes and jib booms
  • Able to determine good weld quality during the welding process and make correction as needed
  • Assist in other areas of the shop when needed
  • Able to be recertified as needed (Structural Certifications)
  • Mentor lessor experienced welders

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:
  • Basic shop math (i.e. add/subtract/divide/multiply, whole numbers and fractions)
  • Read a tape measure to within 1/16"
  • A general understanding of common hand tools is preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Able to read and understand all engineering prints related to the process
  • Maintain the required welder certification within the skill level

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Manufacturing environment
  • Continuous standing, squatting, bending, pulling, and lifting throughout the workday
  • Wear PPE when required - Manufacturing Areas
  • Shift work, days or evenings, Monday through Friday, and some Saturday's and Sunday's
  • Job Progression - Typical:
  • Assisting in planning of the department in the supervisor's absence including department reporting, set-up and flow of production within the shift and for the next shift.
