The Specialist, Immersive Media & Learning Technologies serves as the primary technical expert and student support specialist for cutting-edge learning spaces and multimedia production spaces. This position provides hands-on support to students, faculty, and the community, develops engaging media content, and explores emerging technologies to enhance experiential learning across the Immersive Theater, VR lab, development studio, and multimedia production environments. The Specialist works collaboratively with the Library and Tutoring Information Technology Specialist, Teaching & Learning Services staff, and the part-time Immersive Technology & Marketing staff member, and exercises independent judgment in daily operations while consulting with the Director on strategic decisions, technology investments, and initiatives that require alignment with departmental priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Immersive Media Operations & Student Support (30%)
  • Provide hands-on technical support for immersive theater, VR lab, and development studio during classes and open lab hours
  • Conduct one-on-one student appointments to support individual projects and skill development
  • Supervise and mentor student workers supporting immersive technology spaces and media production activities
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues for immersive technology equipment and production tools in collaboration with the Library & Tutoring Information Technology Specialist
Instructional Design & Training (25%)
  • Design and develop custom immersive learning experiences in collaboration with faculty and Instructional Designers, including VR/AR experiences, interactive installations, game-based learning modules, and 360-degree video experiences
  • Deliver engaging demonstrations, workshops, and microcredentials, on immersive technologies, VR/AR applications, and creative production tools for students and faculty
  • Provide training and ongoing support to library, tutoring, and TLS staff on immersive technologies to enable Tier 1 support across departments
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate immersive technologies into curriculum and course assignments
  • Create user guides, tutorials, and documentation for immersive media resources
Media Production & Content Creation (25%)
  • Design and produce promotional media, sizzle reels, and short-form video content to showcase department programs and student work
  • Develop and maintain content for digital signage systems in CLI spaces in collaboration with the Immersive Technology & Marketing staff member
  • Capture and edit photo, video, and 360-degree content for archival and promotional purposes
  • Design visual assets using industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Blender, and Unity.
  • Support student media production projects through technical guidance and quality control
  • Maintain organized digital asset library and media archive
Technology Research & Innovation (20%)
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies in VR/AR, immersive media, AI, and experiential learning
  • Recommend new tools, software, and equipment to enhance immersive learning experiences
  • Pilot innovative technologies and create proof-of-concept demonstrations for stakeholder review
  • Stay current with industry trends in game engines, new media, 3D modeling, photogrammetry, and interactive design
  • Explore creative coding and real-time visual programming tools (TouchDesigner etc.)
  • Develop interactive experiences and prototypes for installation in immersive spaces
  • Attend professional development opportunities, conferences, and training to advance technical expertise
  • Share knowledge and best practices through presentations to campus community

Minimum Expectations & Requirements
  • Associates degree in Media Production, Digital Arts, Game Design, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with video production, editing, and post-production workflows
  • Proficiency with at least one professional video editing platform (Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro)
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro)
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills and ability to learn new software and hardware quickly
  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
  • Ability to supervise and mentor student workers
  • Comfortable with public speaking, delivering workshops, and providing one-on-one instruction
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
