Job description

Oak View Group (OVG) is the global leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services, with a platform spanning venue development and end-to-end capabilities across venue management, hospitality, and sponsorship sales. Out-going and fan-friendly individuals are needed to become members of the Chartway Arena/OVG Event Staff. Our Event Staff members will greet guests, check tickets and direct fans with the primary focus of providing the best possible experience from entrance to exit! The Event Staff Team Member position requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Our Event Staff team plays a critical role in the overall fan experience and is committed to providing all our guests with a safe, pleasant, and memorable experience during ODU Men’s and Women’s Basketball Games as well as all other events at Chartway Arena. As a valued member of the Event Staff, you will be our frontline employees as the first individuals guests see upon entering our arena. You will greet guests, check tickets, and direct fans with the primary focus of providing the best possible experience from entrance to exit.

This role will pay an hourly wage of $15.00.

Chartway Arena is a 9,100-seat multi-purpose arena located on the campus of Old Dominion University. Operated by OVG since it opened in 2002, Chartway Arena is known as one of the premier mid-sized collegiate venues in the country. Chartway Arena is home to Old Dominion Monarch Men's and Women's basketball, as well as concerts, family shows, and other attractions for the Hampton Roads area. 


  • Interact with guests who enter the facility, ensuring a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all in the facility. 
  • Be proactive and personable in greeting and assisting guests to their seats.
  • Scan event tickets, ensuring that the proper ticket is being used to gain entry
  • Provide accurate arena and event information and direct guests accordingly.
  • Be familiar with the Arena’s policies and procedures, including emergency evacuation plans.
  • Anticipate needs, assess situations, and act accordingly.
  • Understanding of the arena layout, including seat locations, hospitality spaces, concessions, and the area around the arena, and assisting in managing foot traffic flow for large crowds.
  • Is flexible with the position assigned, understanding the duties may change based on needs and/or situations.
  • Standing, sitting, and being stationary in one area during the duration of the shift.
  • Work in loud and dark environments.
  • Report any customer issues and building safety issues to supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Prior customer service experience (entry-level) preferred.
  • Must have a positive and professional attitude and must possess outstanding communication skills.
  • Requires attention to detail and ability to adapt to changing and high-pressure situations.
  • Required to work autonomously as well as in a team setting in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for an extended period.
  • Provide hospitality to guests before, during, and after events.
  • Outgoing and guest-friendly.
  • Maintain a well-groomed appearance and be in proper uniform.
