About the Role
A Series A consumer fintech startup - building a mobile-first platform that helps everyday users manage money, access earned wages early, and build credit without interest or hard credit pulls - is looking for a Senior Android Software Engineer to join a small, product-focused engineering team. You'll have meaningful impact on product direction and user happiness, working directly with engineering, product, and business leaders to ship experiences that genuinely improve people's financial lives.
This role is on-site in San Francisco, CA. Visa sponsorship is available.
What You'll Do
  • Design, implement, and maintain a consumer-facing Android application used by a large base of everyday users
  • Contribute to and help build platform-level Android architecture and infrastructure
  • Pragmatically solve complex engineering problems across the mobile stack
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to shape product design and direction
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers on the Android team
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure clear communication and alignment across teams
What We're Looking For
Must-haves (dealbreakers):
  • 2+ years of professional experience in mobile engineering, building and shipping production Android apps
  • Strong Kotlin expertise with demonstrated experience using Jetpack Compose and modern app architecture patterns (MVVM or Clean Architecture)
  • Experience building consumer-facing mobile applications (not exclusively B2B)

Required:
  • Experience integrating Firebase services (Authentication, Firestore/Realtime Database, Cloud Messaging)
  • Proficiency with backend data formats and APIs common in mobile apps: protobufs, REST, and gRPC
  • Proficiency with Android testing strategies - unit tests, instrumentation tests, and UI tests
  • Experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines for mobile app development
  • Demonstrated mentorship or technical leadership experience guiding junior engineers
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice to have:
  • Experience with platform-level Android development and architecture
  • Prior involvement in contributing to product design and direction decisions
  • Familiarity with backend technologies such as Go, GCP, BigQuery, or MySQL
Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $160,000 - $200,000 per year
