What is an entry level FIFO?

An Entry Level FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) job is a position that requires workers to travel to remote work sites, usually in mining, construction, or oil and gas industries. Employees work on a rotational schedule, such as two weeks on and one week off, with accommodation and meals provided. These roles often include general labor, trade assistance, or hospitality support. No prior experience may be required, but physical fitness and the ability to work in harsh conditions are important.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an entry level FIFO position?

To excel as an Entry Level FIFO (Fly-In-Fly-Out) worker, you need basic competency in your trade or field, a willingness to work in remote locations, and often a high school diploma or relevant entry-level certification. Familiarity with safety protocols, equipment operation, and company-specific systems is highly valued, especially in industries like mining, construction, or resources. Strong communication, teamwork, and resilience help you adapt to rostered shifts and close working quarters. These skills are critical for maintaining safety, productivity, and positive team dynamics during extended periods away from home.

What should I expect from the roster and living arrangements in an entry level FIFO position?

As an Entry Level FIFO worker, you will typically work on a set roster—such as two weeks on site followed by one week off at home—requiring you to stay in company-provided, camp-style accommodations during work swings. Meals, laundry, and recreational facilities are usually included, and you’ll share living spaces with other team members. The remote environment fosters a tight-knit team atmosphere, but being away from home for extended periods can be challenging for some. Many employers support work-life balance with scheduled breaks and wellbeing programs. Adapting to this lifestyle can open doors to long-term, rewarding careers in resource and construction sectors.

Does entry level FIFO have entry-level jobs?

Entry level FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) jobs are often available for individuals seeking entry-level positions in industries like mining, construction, and oil and gas. These roles typically require basic skills, a valid driver's license, and sometimes safety certifications, making them accessible to those new to the field. However, availability varies by industry and employer requirements.

How to get into entry level FIFO with no experience?

Entry level FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) positions often require a high school diploma or equivalent and may prioritize safety awareness and physical fitness. Gaining relevant certifications such as Basic Safety Training or First Aid can improve chances, and applying through mining or resource company job boards is a common approach for those with no prior experience.

How to get started with entry level FIFO jobs?

To start an entry-level FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) job, research companies that offer FIFO positions in your industry, such as mining or construction, and submit applications through their career portals. Gaining relevant certifications, such as safety or equipment operation licenses, and being physically prepared for remote work schedules are also important steps.
