Position Summary:
The Communications Associate is an entry-level position that supports the Communications Department by project managing and gathering information and carrying out tasks to ensure the most effective communications to Children's Museum visitors and potential customers.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Managing and responding to Museum's general email account.
  • Manages Museum signage, brochure and printed materials both within Museum racks and in public spaces as needed.
  • Manage advertising campaigns.
  • Promote museum events, exhibits, and activities across all platforms.
  • Coordinates and implements additional projects as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:
Printing / Signage / Graphics
  • Coordinate with other departments within the museum to determine printing needs.
  • Coordinate creative kick offs with graphic designers and deliver clear direction for all print projects.
  • Manage large print and signage orders.
  • Manage and communicate with print vendors.
  • Monitor and / or install print deliveries.
  • Monitor, update and create content for digital signage.

Advertising
  • Manage multiple advertising campaigns simultaneously through the creation and maintenance of spreadsheets.
  • Communicate deadlines to graphic designers to ensure timely submission of ads to media agency.
  • Ensure appropriate graphics and ad copy are coordinated between graphic designer and media agency on schedule and draft ad copy when necessary.
  • Schedule meetings to review advertising creative drafts with upper management prior to submission and deliver clear creative direction to graphic designers.
  • Display an understanding of brand guidelines and ensure that they are met during creative reviews.

Communications
  • Project management in the form of participating in kick off meetings with other departments to help clarify project scope, deliverables, timeline and budget, and vendor management; and overseeing project progress by monitoring and communicating deadlines within team and to collaborating departments.
  • Assist in content creation (email, video, web, graphics, etc.)
  • Assist with social media posts, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok.
  • Duties could include working with visitors and/or museum staff to create content, replies, and more.

Job Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred.

Experience:
  • Prior experience in marketing, communications, advertising, and working in non-profits or with children is a plus, not required.

Skills:
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, PPT, Excel).
  • Familiarity with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and TikTok, including being able to edit video and stories in the applications.
  • Photography skills are a plus.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Express, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator / In Design is preferred.

Physical Requirements & Equipment Usage:
  • This position is primarily sedentary in nature. No excessive physical effort required, however, the position may require lifting or moving items with assistance such as for events. It will be necessary to move about Museum in normal course of administrative and professional activities.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment.

Work Environment, Hours of Work, and Travel Requirements:
  • In-office work during business hours Monday-Friday, with occasional remote flexibility, based on operational needs. Occasional weekend and evening hours required for events.
  • Duties will be performed in a museum environment, which includes interaction with the public and exposure to children and families.

Clearances:
FBI fingerprints (Department of Human Services), PA Child Abuse History Certification (Act 33) and PA State Criminal History Record Check (Act 34) are required.
