Established 38 years ago, LA's BEST serves children in neighborhoods with the greatest needs but the fewest resources, ensuring access to meaningful learning experiences beyond the school day.

Job Overview & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Marketing & Communications Associate provides tactical, execution-level support for LA's BEST's marketing and communications efforts. Under the guidance of the Director of Marketing & Communications, this role supports content development, social media execution, website and e-communications updates, event coverage, and administrative coordination related to marketing and communication initiatives. The Marketing & Communications Associate works collaboratively with internal staff to help ensure timely, accurate, and consistent communications across platforms, while maintaining attention to detail and adherence to approved messaging. Core responsibilities include:


Content Support & Asset Development (approximately 35%):

  • Capture photographs and short videos at sites and events as directed.
  • Support programmatic activities and coordination to create necessary collateral.
  • Draft basic content such as social media captions, short blurbs, and internal drafts using provided guidance or templates.
  • Organize digital assets (photos, videos, graphics) within approved platforms (e.g., Canva, shared drives).
  • Support the preparation of donor-facing and stakeholder materials as assigned by the Director of Marketing & Communications.


Social Media Execution (approximately 30%):

  • Schedule and post content to LA's BEST's social media platforms based on an approved marketing & communications calendar.
  • Monitor comments and messages and flag items requiring response or escalation to the Director of Marketing & Communications.
  • Assist with basic social media reporting and data compilation.
  • Support paid social media efforts and campaigns by executing approved content and timelines.


Website & Communications Support (approximately 20%):

  • Support routine website maintenance by posting approved content and updating photos as needed.
  • Assist with formatting and distributing e-blasts or newsletters based on approved messaging.
  • Support internal coordination related to marketing & communications requests.


Administrative & Project Support (approximately 15%):

  • Track marketing & communications requests and deadlines.
  • Support logistics for events or campaigns as assigned.
  • Collaborate with other LA's BEST staff on key initiatives or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field is preferred; relevant coursework is a plus.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, or a related support role; familiarity with nonprofit or public-sector environments a plus.
  • Spanish language proficiency is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience using social media platforms for organizational purposes.
  • Experience with tools such as Canva, WordPress, Mailchimp, and Google Workspace preferred.


Compensation

$25.81 per hour - $37.42 per hour; commensurate with experience.


Work Location

Currently, there is a hybrid work environment with three days per week required at the office in downtown Los Angeles (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays). Occasional evening and weekend work is required throughout the year. Candidates must also be able to travel to school sites and meetings/events within L.A. County on a regular basis and have access to reliable and timely transportation.
