JOB SUMMARY:

Entry Level: The Industrial Engineer is responsible for executing multiple projects with well-defined scope and impact. They will be expected to follow and utilize process improvements methodologies to help process owners achieve process improvements. In addition, this individual will also be responsible for helping to sustain the improvements by imbedding proper control measures and metrics.

Advanced Level: The Advanced Industrial Engineer position is frequently executing multiple projects with varying scope and impact. They will be expected to implement and teach new process improvement methodologies, business practices and business metrics to Douglas. This individual will also be responsible for helping to sustain the improvements by imbedding proper control measures and metrics and developing process owner accountability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Industrial Engineer (Entry Level):

  1. Steward our mission (to enrich lives by providing differentiated packaging automation and services) and values (unwavering integrity, servant's heart, ownership spirit and continuous innovation and improvement).
  2. Delivers improved productivity, processes and financial results by leading intra-department improvement teams and improvement projects. Capable of financial impact that equates to at least 1 times the employee's salary.
  3. Quantifies all process improvements for their cost impact.
  4. Ability to identify the differences in team members' knowledge, personality types and skill sets.
  5. Able to act on self-improvement recommendations about areas of growth that are required.
  6. Identifies and implements best practices in material handling, manufacturing processes, inventory management, safety, quality assurance, and change management.
  7. Demonstrates an ability to workwith project team members of various skills and knowledge to achieve project goals.
  8. Assists training in continuous improvement, root cause identification, and problem solving throughout the company.
  9. Actively learn and positively communicate company best practices, policies, procedures and vision across the company.
  10. Celebrates great successes with fellow employee owners.
  11. Ability to create SMART goals and to track and demonstrate the success of them.
  12. Looks to fellow team members as role models and actively works to live the Douglas Values.
  13. Provides timely project schedule, status updates to project team and management.
  14. Able to perform extensive data analysis to define current and future state of process improvements.

Advanced Industrial Engineer:

  4. Identifies gaps in project goals and metrics and provides options to improve the scope of the project.
  5. Ability to adapt expectations to match project team members' knowledge, personality types and skill sets.
  6. Capable of identification and communication of strengths and weaknesses, and the ability to ask for help. Able to act on self-improvement recommendations of area of growth that are required.
  7. Identifies and implements best practices in material handling, manufacturing processes, inventory management, safety, quality assurance, and change management.
  8. Demonstrates a strong ability to partner with project team members and work through challenges together, thus eliminating the need for leadership intervention.
  9. Performs training in continuous improvement, root cause identification, and problem solving throughout the company.
  10. Actively learn, develop, and positively communicate company best practices, policies, procedures and vision across the company.

  16. Implements methods to move projects forwards when progress stalls such as statistical analysis, gap identification and education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

For Entry Level:

  • Must possess both excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Accomplished computer and system skills including Microsoft software (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Power Point, and Visio).
  • Capable of utilizing CAD software if necessary.
  • Knowledgeable and familiar with MRP or other related systems.
  • Possesses strong organizational and research skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to multi-task.

    • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Must be able to work independently and responsibly at an above average level with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

For Entry Level:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering with 0-2 to years related experience.
  • Or the equivalent education/training and related experience.
  • Experience with various process improvement tools such as Lean methodologies, Six Sigma Methodologies, Statistics, Value Stream Mapping, Pareto Analysis and FMEA.

For Advanced Level:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering with a 3-6 years related experience is preferred.
  • Or the equivalent education/training and related experience.
  • Proficient with various process improvement tools such as Lean methodologies, Six Sigma Methodologies, Statistics, Value Stream Mapping, Pareto Analysis and FMEA.
  • Experience in the use and application of a Management System.
